Forums - General - 3D printed guns

Well after watching this doc:

where people are activilly sharing cad files to print their own parts for guns..  At the end they show they can fire 27 bullets with their printed version and are hoping to get to 100 rounds.. should this be allowed? 3D printing technology is amazing, you can create beautiful stuff with it but is this going to far?

I just skimmed through that video. that's weird as hell. Never knew you could do something like that. I wonder if I could print up a 3D women, like in weird science. hahaha!!!!!!!!!

wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to BUY a weapon?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Perhaps, but the point is to circumvent gun control laws.

It will never cease to amaze me how we (humans) can create such great things, like those 3d printers, and then find the possibly worst way to use it.

It is. We do actually have some gun control. You can't just buy anything, and there's a waiting period and background checks and all that. Plus there has been a big push for more control after the school shooting in Connecticut. The guy who runs Defense Distributed is an anarchist who is just trying to give a big "fuck you" to the government.

I don't think it matters if this should or shouldn't be allowed because there's very little you can do about this. 3D printers and the materials would have to be illegal to prevent this, and I don't see that happening. The legality of this doesn't matter, this is an easy way for people to get guns if they want them. If there's to be any control, it'll probably have to be with ammunition; I doubt printing rounds is going to be as easy as this.
