Forums - Gaming - Yoichi Wada resigns as Square Enix CEO

I think people are overestimating how much input Wada had on the creative end.

That's actually a good point considering how people just want to accuse him of everything FF related, ingoring the the loss from last year come from non FF games.

What i blame Wada for at the moment:

  1. Stuborn and almost obsessive focus on mmo games
  2. FF XIII on the 360

Could someone PLEASE explain why FF on 360 was such a terrible idea.

The game itself was bad. The port didn't suddenly make a bad game worse.

Final Fantasy XIII being ported to the Xbox 360. A move that rewarded Square with death threats and an ambiguous outcome:

  • The game was delayed for a whole year.
  • Extra dev costs for the 360 version
  • Games like MGS 4 indicating that the combination of exclusivity and a big name can bring in numbers.
  • Disappointing sales on the 360 (which even decreased with XIII-2)

People will argue that a lot have gone wrong with Square but my take is that this is one of the most important issues.

...

Facts.

Every last FF is the most critisized FF but claiming the game is flat out bad makes you part of a vocal (and at times stuborn) minority.

Especially in the first months of the game's release, which are important of revenue, the critical acclaim was above an average of 80%. An example of dissapoinitng sales that coincide with bad reviews is RE 6. Which is not the case, therefore you're wrong.

It was a crushing blow to the PS3 back in the day, even today I still don't like what happened.

I don't like it either but this is about sales. 360 would have made us swollow our words had the gap in sales not been that staggering.

FF XIII was a long developed and extremely expensive game and porting set EVERYTHING back chronologically and financially and in return Square got poor results.

Wow entitled much? LOL. There's nothing special about the PS4 architecture, it's a mid-tier PC in a box, if they can make a PS4 version, there should be 720 and PC versions too and I think their new management will see it that way too. It will add at least 1-2 million each to franchises like FF and KH.

The 720 and PS4 are much more alike than the PS3 and 360 were.

Nomura has gone downhill in general, I doubt Wade told him to take like 8 years to work on FFVersusXIII. No CEO does that. If anything they need a new CEO to crack the whip and not let bullcrap like that go on forever.

You realise that the reason Nomura has spent so long on the game is because Wada cracked the whip... so that his team worked on FFXIII and FFXIV (after the huge failure it was at release) instead of Versus.

Versus being delayed so ridiculously long is primarily because they've had a threadbare team working on it for the majority of development.

Mind you, their whole management needs a shake up. FFXIII was a development hell, their games poorly marketed and their general PR has been terrible this gen.
