I guess it is an all right start from God of War, but certainly not great compared to previous games. Hopefully this will convince Sony to move on from Kratos....

Nah, I don't think Kratos is the problem. It's the fact that it wasn't God of War IV. A next gen game in the series sjhould certainly perform better. Plus, we need to see how it holds.

it's basically like GoW2 since it's coming at the end of the lifecycle.  I expect it to leg it out to 3.5-4m.  It might be bundled this holiday.

Yep, end of gen too. I think the only one of Sony's games this year that will have a big opening and sustained life is The Last Of Us. 3EYOND will do a moderate 1 mill, but not much outside of that.

I think Beyond will at least match Heavy Rain.  It's going to get some attention with the starpower its bringing and if it gets any advertisement it'll be more advertised than Heavy Rain.  I'll be picking up the CE and I only got Heavy Rain when it was $30 on Ebay so that's one more sale for them already.  Most people who tried Heavy Rain really liked it so I expect good word of mouth to help with Cage's next game.  LoU is looking like it may be one of the last system sellers of the gen.  It is an untouched exclusive area for Sony and will attract zombie enthusiasts who only had xbox because of L4D before.  Also I expect great reviews and word of mouth considering it's from ND.

Seems people are tired of God of War. Good. SMS is a good studio, I'd rather see something new from them.

Gears of War Judgement isn't even made by Epic. Isn't Ascension a SMS title? Not really comparable imho, but I do agree that Judgement sales won't match the predecessors.

But still, that's only the 4th Gears game in the franchise. This is the 7th God of War title. And unlike Gears, which revolves around multiple characters and story lines, God of War is all Kratos. Seems people have had enough. Can't wait to see what else SMS can do.

*sigh* why am I not surprised.

Well it's the 6th GoW game and it comes at the end of a console cycle and is a prequel.  SSM made plenty of improvements including the rage meter that changes the combat and MP.  God of War doesn't have to be about Kratos and doesn't have to be about Greek mythology.  Egypt and Norse mythology have been pleaded for by fans and a new game a la Killzone Shadowfall or Infamous Second Son can easily be made by SSM with the same base combat and/or character of gratuitously destroying gods.  GoW2 saw a decline in sales and that was a numbered installment that was integral to the story, because it was on a console that was being overshadowed by its predecessor and had already had a GoW on it before.  SSM is making a new IP with their other team so you'll get your wish.

Yikes at those GOW:A sales in the UK. Regardless of it being end of the generation or a prequel or whatever, on the brand name alone it should have done better. Was the advertising for it in the UK non-existent?

I think the whole setting is tired. My brother has been a huge fan of GoW throughout as he likes these types of games and likes his Greek myths, but just doesn't care about this game. It is partially due to his attachment to his iPad, but AC III got him away from that for a while whereas this feels just so stale.

I can't personally justify buying this since I have such a large backlog and found Gears Judgement more convincing, but I really want the Last of Us Demo but there is just no excitment for this game

Damn already one of Sony's last big bang for the PS3 is out. 72 more days until the last of us demo.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

Spiderman wii U did not make it, what makes you think any W U games will make it?

why would you expect Spider man to make charts? Nobody buys those types of games, he said wii u games meaning hopefully Lego City or/and MH3U shows up

Well i hoped for better numbers for God of War Ascension but they are Ok and not surprisiong either. There are several factors why i didnt perform that well compared to God of War 3.

1. end of the current gen
2. Its a prequel and not a sequel
3. means less hype
4. plus "bad review" hurt the sales a bit

Overall an God of War 2 like scenario as expected. Will self 3-3.5 million lifetime with future bundling.

So these first week sales for God of War: Ascension only count its first 5 days in the USA and only the first 2 days in the UK, does anyone else see the problem here?

Why doesn't Vgchartz wait for new games to be out for a full week before posting sales data? Full week sales would be something like this; USA: 500,000 & UK: 50,000. We know it sold around 25,000 in Japan week one too, so far that's 575,000 first week before we even see how it did in the rest of Europe.

God of War: Ascension's first FULL week worldwide should be around 700,000 units. It should reach 1 million next week/ 2.0-2.5 million this year/ 4.0-4.5 million lifetime (4.75-5.25 million if heavily bundled). Amazing sales for a prequel in a dead genre in which nothing else comes close.

Also God of War is HUGELY popular in Brazil/Latin America and it's very popular in India and quite popular in Russia, all of which are emerging markets that obviously aren't tracked. This is probably why the series was/is so massively under-tracked. Just look at God of War III's sales numbers, it's actually sold around 6 million units including every SKU.

Anyway God of War: Ascension and the God of War Saga are going to see an enormous boost in the USA next week thanks to GameStops new deal where if you buy God of War: Ascension you get the God of War Saga Collection free. It's already at the #1 & #2 spots in GameStops bestsellers list, I'm not talking about just for PS3 either, they are at the top 2 spots including EVERYTHING, even outselling Gears of War: Judgment which is at #3 overall.
