Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft lets businesses put in large orders for Surface tablets

NeoWin

Microsoft has so far promoted the Surface tablets a more of a consumer product, thanks in part to its highly choreographed TV ads. Now Microsoft has opened the door for large businesses to order mass amounts of both the Surface RT and the Surface Pro tablet via a new Surface Commercial Order website.

As reported by ZDNet, the Surface Commercial Order webpage is now live, although you have to have at least a Microsoft Account ID and password to see the page. One interesting thing is that Microsoft is not offering any discounts for large commercial orders. Business will have to pay the same price per tablet as everyone else does. The same goes for the prices of the few Surface accessories that are on sale, namely the Type and Touch covers, the power adapter, the VGA and Digital AV adapters and the Surface Pro pen.

Microsoft is also offering an extended three year hardware warranty for commercial Surface orders, which costs $200 for each Surface Pro tablet and $150 for each Surface RT tablet. At the moment, commercial bulk orders are just for US and Canadian businesses.

Microsoft has yet to reveal just how many Surface tablet it has sold since the Surface RT tablet launched in late October. A recent report claims, via unnamed sources, that so far only 1.5 million of the tablets have sold, which includes 400,000 units of the Surface Pro version.

The surface seems to make a great business tablet, especially with office packed in. I almost bought the pro, but found out I could get a decent gaming laptop for $400 more. I can see this being a success from big companies, especially after the failure of the blackberry tablet.

All aboard the....hype....train.....for.... oh nevermind.

Is this microsoft's way of saying "We're the pro-business tablet."

Good luck with that.

I would absolutely have purchased the Surface Pro over my current laptop. But my laptop is fine, and I don't need to replace it right now.

Plus, with the new Intel Haswell CPU coming out soon, and it significant power conservation, it seems Surface Pro 2 should have a *major* improvement in battery life.

But for business now, it seems like a good choice.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
