Yeah, one of the houses we raided for drugs back when I was a cop had tons of consoles in one room--from Super Nes to Playstation 2. Didn't think there was anything unusual about it. We just got the serial numbers to see if they were stolen (and they probably were--traded for drugs, no doubt).
On a different note: My PS3 just died. Flashing red lights. It was fun while it lasted. :(

@italics Yeah I kind of figured it is a regular thing. I remember seeing a report about a cargo of consoles being stolen last year and it was in the news because the nature of the crime was odd because how did they steal all of them without anybody noticing or something like that.
Your PS3 might not be broken. Mine has done that before and it was just a loose cable. Here is some troubleshooting to see if it gets fixed.
Shut down your console. Switch off its power connection and do the following. A loose cable can be a simple cause of a blinking light, so check all the cables. You can unplug all of them, including the power cord, and then re-insert them back properly. If the red light is still blinking, move on to the next step.
Put off the console, remove and re-insert the hard drive. This step usually helps to fix the problem of the blinking red light on the PS3. Many experts also suggest to carefully clean the hard drive before re-inserting it.
If the problem is caused due to overheating, do the following. Put off the console. Remember, overheating is often caused due to wrong positioning of the console, apart from it being used for a long time at a stretch. Now, before you start the console again, remove and re-insert the hard drive and check whether all the connections are tight.
Sorry for the green highlights. Copy and pasted from another website.

I think the fact that it was just a PS3 is why it made news.

Yes but that likely happens everyday. I'm sure some people will steal a toothbrush and nothing else. Or a piece of bubblegum from the store. Should that be news too?
@ SnakeDrake
Don't take the bait! Edit your post before someone reports you! Even though i know it's only a joke not every mód might get the joke, don't let yourself get banned.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
I had an old friend (no longer friends) return back to his apartment to find his PS3, TV, and a few other things (watches, rings, etc) stolen. I was like uh did you take your stuff over to your parents house? He left his sliding door unlocked because he thought it was jammed/didn't work. I was like you could have at least kept the damn bar up which would have made it almost impossible to break in the way they did.
He had 200-300 dollars worth of weed under the TV stand in a cabinet. Apparently, whoever robbed him didn't know him personally because they would have taken that also.
The real sad part of the story though is that he eventually got a 360.
