Forums - General - So buy a PS3 or save up for a PS4?

It's poll

PS3 - Teh CELL 111 43.53%

PS4 - it's got 8GB GDDR5 RAM! 77 30.20%

PC upgrades my good man 7 2.75%

Quit gaming altogether 15 5.88%

Buy a 3DS instead (Not until I get Igavania) 9 3.53%

Vita - It means life 13 5.10%

Wii U - Even tho you don... 16 6.27%

Zarx only you MoFos 6 2.35%

Total:254

It's no question. We have no real idea about what the PS4 will have or what it can do, and it'll likely be a good year or two before there's a library worthy of the price. In addition, you can't play PS3 games, so if you don't choose the PS3 you won't be able to play any of the great games on that system.

as slimebeast said, its just a masterpiece. its a true epic example at what video games can be. any one who claims story isnt important in video games clearly hasnt played red dead redemption. if i were to chose a game of the generation, i think i would chose RDR

I would, too.

i always knew you were a genius. you have a eric cartman avatar, how can you not be?

Exactly ;)

Get a Wii U, why? Because it is outside of your bubble :).

TBH I would rather have a 3DS than a Wii U, I like Japanese games (which is why I make a big deal about when they come to PC like Darck Souls, Recettear etc), but the ones I am interested in are mostly on handhelds anyway which is why I have had a GBC, GBA, DS. I have tried Mario games they are just not my thing, the only pure platforming game I ever got into was Sonic 2 and I played that mostly co-op lol. The only Nintendo franchise I really like (not that I haven't played the others) is Pokemon and Metroidvania Metroid but they don't make those anymore. If getting out of my bubble means playing games I just plane don't like I will stay in my bubble thank you very much, I already play games from dozens of genres from all over the world from one man teams to AAA blockbusters I think I already have a bigger bubble than most.

The only reason I would really get a Wii U is to play a few of the Wii games I missed, but if I wanted to do that I would just dive into getting Dolphin set up or just get a god damn Wii. I mean aparently they fucked up the backwards compatability mode for the PAL reigon on the Wii U as well.

Ok that comes off as rather hostile/defensive but fuck it.

Have you tried Dolphin? I find it a lot more buggy and has more compatibility issues than PCSX2.

1. PS4 is not backwards compatible so you won't be able to enjoy any of the PS3's goodness with it.

2. PS3 currently has games. PS4 won't for a while.

3. PS4's price will drop while you are still enjoying the massive PS3 collection.

Choice is simple.

As a UK gamer who's played to completion so, so many Wii games on his Wii U, I can confirm this isn't the case.

Not that it's important, but it isn't.

The PS3's backlog is still relevant today and many of their exclusives can be considered current gen classics compared to the other consoles. If the PS4 isn't BC then I suggest buying a PS3 and having it next to your PS4.

Whelp looks like I might have to scrap everything and save up for one of these babies

A PS4 obviously, since you Zarx aren't the type of guy who completes many games in a short amount of time and you probably already have a fairly big backlog of unfinished games on the PC (plus all these obscure upcoming PC exclusives you keep hyping all the time). Within 6 months PS3 will be yesterdays news and u won't have much interest in playing those old games.

*squints* what are you trying to say, boy

Well, are you?

My own rate of completion is about 10 games per year which leads to an ever increasing backlog and games in my collection that I just have to scrap and forget they ever existed.

I would guess that rate (and problem) is about average for the VGC populaton.

But if you're the 2 games per month type of gamer like badgenome, kyliedog and other monsters on this site, then sure, then I absolutely think you should buy a PS3 because it has many great games that need to be experienced.

Depends on the kinds of games that I play, when I am in the mood I can complete an average 8-14 hour game a week. I just completed HotS over the weekend for example. Then again if I don't really dig a game I will just shelve it an move on to the next one, mostly as the constant sales and bundles on PC games keep me in an endless supply of games to play. Naturally RPGs and things pace things out some, and I play quite a few shorter games in the 4-6 hour range as well. I have never been anal about 100% or achivements so I just play as long as a game is fun, plus I kind of live in a dead end town so i have a lot of free time there really isn't much of a night life here lol and now I am single so even more free time.

Edit did a check and I completed ~12 games last year not including multiplayer only games, games like Civ5 that are replayable and not really "finishable", games I started in 2011 and completed in 2012 or games that I finished this year but were started in 2012 like Far Cry 3 or games I gave up on early like Dishonoured.
