Gears of War 1 and 2 had much better legs than any current gen god of war game. It was only gears 3 that had terrible legs. Though I do think both games will have terrible legs. Late in the generation and unneeded prequels.

No, God of War III has had much better legs than all of the Gears of War games. It is known to be hugely undertracked and sold 5.2m as of May 30th 2012 making it impossible to judge its legs by Vgchartz estimates, all we know for sure is the fact it did very well up to the 30th May 2012, GoW3 is at around 6 million now and it's climbing fast thanks to the GoW Saga Collection. The God of War Saga Collection includes God of War III and that has been selling VERY well (Vgchartz is probably massively under-tracking that too), it's just a little bit more money than buying GoW3 alone so most people are simple buying that instead. Including the Saga, Trilogy, Omega (not even tracked by Vgchartz) Collections I bet God of War III will outsell Gears of War 2 lifetime, it's not far off now and the Saga Collection is selling so well (and included in the GoW legacy bundle) that it'll eventually put God of War III ahead of Gears of War 2. Also God of War: Ascension will probably outsell GeoW:J lifetime, even if it doesn't open quite as well (it'll be really close). |
Yes god of war is undertracked. But we know for a fact the big majority of that is initial sales in the USA thanks to NPD. NPD has it at 1.1mil first two weeks not including hardware bundles while vgchartz has it at 850k including hardware bundles. What that means is that the game's legs aren't that much better than what vgchartz has. It's inital sales were just much higher. It is also undertracked in Japan and elsewhere but the biggest chunk is clearly from the USA.
The game quickly disappeared from all PAL Charts and NPD shortly after release. And no its legs are no where near Gears of War 1 or 2. Just look at their sales. They actually started out about on par with god of war, since we know its first week is around 300k undertracked. And then over the long run they sold more.
Your 6mil prediction by now is insane. If it sold nearly 1mil in less than the past year we would be seeing it in the PAL charts and even NPD on slower months.
