400k in a month is dreadful for a new device like this with the marketing power of Microsoft.

Totally wasted opportunity by MS, don't know what their doing, but I think 99% of us fortold the situation playing out like this.

Too much hyperbole and PR nonsense, not enough substance and humane marketing drive. And there's me usually having a go at Sony for that kind of style.

How come "%99" of us don't have 50 billion in cash reserves then? Talking about it over the internet after it has happened and claiming you predicted it, (if you did tough, kudos) doesn't mean MS don't know what they're doing.

MS was way too late into the market. The best thing they can do now is heavily market this product and hope it sells.

They need to drop the price.

I see Kowen's point, Android would be nothing without Samsung, but is there an equivalent for MS? Windows 8 will be fine because of home PC and laptops, but it still might fail to crack the tablet market.

Yes that is a nice number for the pro but now the more important part is if they can sustain those sales to normal consumers and not tech freaks.. cause they spend 400 million dollar on marketing for Surface..  and then selling 1.1 and 0.4 million devices is extremly dissappointing.. I would probably be fired if I led such an expensive marketing campaign  and this would be the result

I disagree. If Samsung wasn't producing smartphones and tablets, then another company like LG would just do the same thing as Samsung and become as agressive to rake in the profits. 

I didn't expect it to sell well honestly.

I still don't expect sales to improve much after a price drop. 

Lol, it's just hard to say with all the "it needs a price drop" talk from the Vita, WiiU and to a much smaller extent the 360.
