Now, I'm not basing this off of a finished product, obviously, but from the trailers and images I have seen so far, Destiny looks a LOT like Halo in quite a few areas. I understand that it is the same development studio and there will be similarities, but I couldn't help but watch the trailer and say things like, "That's a Halo character, that's a Halo vehicle, that's a Halo weapon, that's a Halo location, etc."

I was going to post pictures from the web, but that would make a very large thread. So I will just post a few quick grabs and say what I see similar:

Bubble Shields

Banshee

Hunters, Assault Rifle, SMG

Wraith/Scorpion

UNSC Frigates

Sniper rifle, various covenant species

That's just part of them. From the trailers (which I could not find good images for), I saw enemies that matched very closely to Halo enemies like crawlers and jackals and the Flood.

I'm not saying this is going to be a bad thing either. I will definitely get this game. I just can't help but see maybe a tad too much of inspiration from their Halo past and was expecting something more unique/original in design.

What do you think? Do you guys see a lot of similarities?

Yes. It looked like a Halo game that was trying not to look like a Halo game.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Yeh, it looks like the sort of game I'd expect from a studio that made exclusively Halo for a decade. The MMo-ish aspect will help differentiate it enough I think.

probably the reason why i like it that much (not that i already know much about the game). there is even a promethean crawler from halo 4 in the pic i have in my sig, i think bungie is crazy!

Too many platforms, to much money, and too little originality IMO. It will probably do OK numbers but I am not expecting anything near Halo, not even if you combine all the platforms. Never the less the tallent of Bungie and the advertising muscle of Activision/Blizzard might proove me wrong.

It looks extremely similar, which is a huge reason why I'm interested. I'm still not sure why they'd give exclusive content to playstaytion though, cause many of the people who buy Destiny will be Halo/ Xbox players. hmm, perhaps Sony paid them to give exclusive content with the intention of attracting Halo fans to the ps4?

Exclusive content for PS maybe because sony wants xbox and halo gamers to switch over? About everyone I know has an xbox only because of halo. And if PS gets destiny and exclusive content many of them are thinking about getting the ps4 because so far they haven't heard good things about the next xbox.

That is a possibility.

I am leaning more towards there being exclusive content on both platforms, though. PS4 will get exclusive content, Xbox Next/8/720 will get exclusive content.

It's anybody's guess until the new Xbox is finally revealed, I suppose.

I'm not sure about the look of the game, but the idea of it being an MMOFPS sounds amazing if it is done right. Yes, it does look like Halo.

Not trying to start an argument here because I'm not versed on the games myself, but: didn't Halo take a lot of cues from Marathon, Bungie's previous series?

Sci-fi FPS does seem to be their speciality, though. Not that I'm complaining, I'll happily take a multi-plat game similar to Halo. Surprisingly, there's very few other games on the market that get close to the feel that series has, imo.
