What is a "core" game?

something that is aimed towards more core gamers.  Excluding Move and Kinect.  I excluded the book game and sorcery for example on PS3. That was not the purpose of this thread.  I am talking about games that core gamers play has been awfully low and it is surprising. Im searching MSFT so ill post one soon

You're still saying this despite being proven wrong. 76 isn't low, and certainly isn't awfully low. It's in line with Nintendo, and most likely in line with MS as well. You should really do a proper comparison though, including all retail games and dropping the PSN game. MS shouldn't get a free pass just because it hasn't released many games besides Kinect games in the past few years.

Are you wanting me to do a thread comparing the three?  And trust me im not letting nintendo or microsoft slide either.  I dont know what MSFT has but since they have been pretty absent in recent years with core games my guess would be 80 something.  Nintendo would likely be lower than sony because they release a lot of mario games that are simply not that great.

This seems about right. Sony is an above average developer, but not an amazing one. Most of their games are good (which these scores reflect) some of the are very bad, and a few are amazing.

Sony isn't a developer.

Nintendo with 77 the same then (all games). Good.

Last 8 retail games published by Nintendo: 76.

Are people expecting an average above 80 or 90 or what?

I guess I meant developer in the broader sense of conglomeration of developers.  Or publisher if you like.  W/e.

What were the last 8 retail games published by Nintendo?

http://www.metacritic.com/company/nintendo?filter-options=games&num_items=30&sort_options=date

You will excuse me counting 3DS+Wii+WiiU games because there haven't been that many recent ones on Wii/WiiU:

Brain Age: Concentration Training - 73
Fire Emblem: Awakening - 92
NSMBU - 84
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge - 70
SiNG Party - 59
Nintendo Land - 77
Paper Mario: Sticker Star - 75
(Freakyforms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive!) - 63 but seems to be a retail release of a digital game
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask - 82

Last 8 retail games: 76.5 (74 if you count the retail release of the digital game (like JayWood does himself for PS games)

Average career score: 77

I don't think Razor's Edge should be included.  It's a revision of a game that was originally made without any input of Nintendo.  If you want to include Brain Age and Sing Party, you'd have to include games like Wonder Book and Sports Champions 2.  Define the games however you like, but you have to be consistent.

What is a "core" game?

Anything that helps to push Microsoft's average over Sony's.

General note: Please don't encourage JayWood2010 to make more threads.

Wrong.  Those move games woud have lowered sony as well.

Meanwhile doing the same for Nintendo and Microsoft would have most likely given us something more glaring to talk about.

I suspect your MSFT list to include multiple entries of Halo and Forza due to these rules.

Do you all want me to do a MSFT and nintendo one as well? Some people want sme to and others dont

Do it unless you want to be seen as biased. Just my 2 cents

Dude. Look at the hardware sales week after week. What is selling the PS3? That's right: Europe and Japan brand loyalites

I did not predict anything. In fact, I expect it to sell maybe around 3m or so this time around because it's a prequel. But 3m is way more than enough to make a profit and then some.

Of course, Forza profited but somehow GoW won't.

Fair enough with the rest of your point, but we all know why PS3 outsells 360 globally, and it aint the exclusives.

Oh, right. *Rolls eyes*

Only reason the PS3 is top dog is because of loyalties, but games sell 360.

The top games on PS3 are mostly multiplats, also on 360. Then you look at central Europe and especially Japan.....you gonna tell me loyalty has nothing to do with it? NM...not so much loyalty as brand mindshare/familiarity.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Im going to look biased regardless of what i say by this point.  If I do the list people are going to be mad if i dont include kinect games.  If i do inlcude kinect games then they are going to want me to include move games here as well.

Ill make one though

@pezus

Did you really put Sing Party? Really lmao

All retail games should be included. No exclusions for being Kinect or Move. Those are part of the consoles so their games should most definitely be considered or else any sort of list is unfairly skewed to one side.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Is there any significance in choosing the last 8 instead on the last 10 or 5? 8 is a weird number.

I think that's important to note that even though SONY owns all the IP's, only GOW and MLB were actually made by 1st party studios.

Sly Cooper Thieves in Time - 76 - Sanzaru Games

Playstation Allstars Battle Royal - 74 - SuperBot Entertainment

Ratchet & Clank Full Frontal Assault - 63 - Insomniac

Little Big Planet Karting - 73 - United Front Games

Star Hawk - 77 - LightBox Interactive

Twisted Metal - 76 - Eat Sleep Play
