Replace "films" with "video games" and you got yourself a FRANCHISE. |
Yes but we don't even know if it will get a sequel, the new X game by Monolith could not be a sequel to Xenoblade...

A quick look at the OP and you'll understand the point of this thread. The thread title doesn't say "top 7 games", it says "franchises". That means IP's with 2 or more installments. |
Not every game can be a franchise. Chrono Trigger, despite having "Chrono Cross," is not a franchise.

Final Fantasy games are part of a "franchise" despite not being sequels of each other. There's no doubt that X will at the very least have what makes Final Fantasy a franchise.
edit: This video should be enough proof of that.

But X is 8th gen and this thread talks about 7th gen

huh? that didn't make any sense. I suggest you look up the term franchise, you're talking about "series". Either way, Chrono Cross is part of the "Chrono franchise" as much as any Final Fantasy is part of the same franchise, even if it's called "Dirge of Cerberus: FFVII"
1- The Last Of Us (lol its not a franchise, but i dont care)
2-Uncharted
3-Gears of War (minus judgement)
4- Read Dead redemtion
5-Killzone
Sorry i dont have top 7

No, I'm aware of what franchise means.
"OK. Since I may never have the chance to say this kind of thing anywhere else... I'll go ahead and say it. After the announcement of "Cross" this time, I heard a lot of voices out there that were saying things like, "Man, this isn't CHRONO". To tell you the truth, I was gravely disappointed. Yes, the platform changed; and yes, there were many parts that changed dramatically from the previous work. But in my view, the whole point in making Chrono Cross was to make a new Chrono with the best available skills and technologies of today. I never had any intentions of just taking the system from Trigger and moving it onto the PlayStation console. That's why I believe that Cross is Cross, and NOT Trigger 2"
Chrono Cross, to me, tried to continue Chrono into a franchise but ultimately failed to. Final Fantasy is still a franchise because it went beyond its first try and didn't fail by any means. While its sales and reception as a title by itself are good, it is not regarded as actually making it a franchise.
edit: At this point, I would say that you're free to disagree with me, but I can't look at Chrono Cross as a part of a franchise. I look at it as an entirely different game. It plays, feels, looks, and sounds all different. There's too much disconnect. I can barely tell that they were supposed to be part of a franchise.
If you could count Fallout, it would be atop my list. I know it's an old ass series but obviously I'm talking about it since Fallout 3 when it came to consoles.
