I don't understand why some people think Xenoblade is a new IP. The Xeno series has been around for a long time, you'd think nobody has ever played Xenogears or Xenosaga. Just changing setting and/or combat system isn't enough to call it a new IP. Under that logic half the mainline and nearly all the side Final Fantasy games would be "new IP".

Xenoblade is a new IP because it is unrelated to Xenogears, and Xenosaga, also each of those games has different names, and the IPs have different owners.

EDIT: So If Capcom creates "Xenodragon" it will be the same IP? lol XD

No, because Monolith has made the Xeno series (Xenogears under Squaresoft), despite being bought and owned by Nintendo. It's like how Activision and Blizzard are merged but Activision has little real influence on Blizzard. Or how Square and Enix merged but the Final Fantasy IP remained. Just because studio ownership changes doesn't mean the IP changes. Again, each Final Fantasy game is unrelated to each other (except the occasional direct sequel) yet they are considered one IP.

I'm not trying to put down Xenoblade or anything, it's a great game, but it's simply not accurate to call it a brand new IP, or one that Nintendo's developers crafted. It's likely Nintendo itself played very little role in the actual development of the game.

Nintendo bought them after monolith made their last game in the xeno series. The only reason that it's called xenoblade was to give honour to the maker of the game, that poured his soul into the game. The last story was named after final fantasy, but it isn't a part of the franchise.

I think Nintendo should just start buying up some of these developers (Platinum, Mistwalker etc.), because with their games quality and with the guidance, support and knowlegde of Nintendo, they could make something really special.

Sadly, I doubt that they would do it. They even had a golden opportunity to get vigil, but it seems like they are fine with the games they have. I'm hoping that they would take a tour at the mall though, they desperately need more developers and games to fill the year for nintendo gamers.

They should buy platinum, mistwalker, arika and something else. It would be cool if they bought sega or square enix :D

Nintendo should invest in a developer like Monolith Soft. I think they could make some great Nintendo games.

But no, instead they just pump out Mario game after Mario game. They never give us experiences like Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story or Fire Emblem.

Imagine Nintendo releasing a game like Fire Emblem, advertising it worldwide, giving it extensive post-launch DLC maps...

A man can dream...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yes.

There are many great things you can say about Nintendo, but there are also areas where they absolutely deserve to be criticized. One of these things is the creation of new core IPs. The last one they made was Pikmin over a decade ago. That is unacceptable.

Xenoblade Chronicles is undoubtedly one of the best third party games that was released on the Wii. It offers a vast world, formidable gameplay and a good story. It was even praised as the best JRPG of the seventh generation. If third parties can step up to provide such fantastic new experiences as Xenoblade Chronicles and to a lesser extent The Last Story, then I don't see why Nintendo should get a free pass. We should expect more than the usual Mario, Zelda and Metroid games. New IPs that rank right up there in terms of quality with the aforementioned games.

Will Nintendo ever make a new core IP as great as Xenoblade Chronicles or is this a hopeless cause?

You are failing right from the get go. Nintendo owns monolith soft so that was a new ip right there. And pushmo and other games they have been releasing on eshop. Stop the ignorance. New ip has come and more is on the way. You just ignore it.

You know that Rol was voted to be the king of nintendomination right XD

Either he's just kidding as usual, or he is terribly informed, wich is not usual.

TO be fair last generation Ninntendo created some of the most successful franchises of all time - Nintendogs, Brain Age, Mii sereis games, Wii Fit. They are makin, new successful IP's, its just none of them are any fun.

I disagree. Wii sports is a lot of fun. The same goes for wii fit (i'm not sure if it works, but it's a lot of fun as a party game), brain age isn't that bad, the new one is rather fun actually. I can however say that a lot of them isn't all that good. Wii party and wii music in general.

Now that I have read furher into the Xeno- series. I will have to disagree.

Xenogears was made by Square, while Xenosaga was made by Namco. During the time of Gears, Monolith did not exist. However, when Saga came out it was made by Monolith, but under the power of Namco. Blade was made during the power of Nintendo.

Yes I realize Xenogears was developed by the team while under Square, and Xenosaga while under Namco Bandai. Being under "the power" of another company really has nothing to do with it though. Individual publishers or parent companies can hold rights to individual items, which is part of the reason why international copyright law is such a nightmare when it comes to localization.

Here's another example. The Darksiders IP is for sale since THQ went bust. If say, Platinum, were to buy it and acquire the rights to make another Darksiders game, that wouldn't spawn a new IP. It's another game in the series, which they acquired the right to use. Different company, same IP. It wouldn't give them full rights to the first two games though, unless they buy the publishing rights from whoever owns them right now (probably a bank) as well. But it would still prevent anybody else from developing a Darksiders game.

It's complicated, I know.

I heard the game "X" was going to be ported to PS4

damn Nintendo lost another exclusive!

no new IPs ?

You know, outside of Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland, this list does very little to help your argument.  Do you honestly consider Wii Play or Art Style to be "new core IP"?

Sure, the list contains no core-IPs except Tingle.

Nope, Tingle's da shit man!

Do you know if geist was any good? I've heard some saying that it was good and other saying it was bad.
