Ubisoft haven't said anything about WiiU being next gen or not. They didn't mention any specific consoles, just that the "next-gen" version of Watch Dogs is being developed first. What version that is, who knows, but it's more probable that he meant PC and PS4 (and next Xbox) versions.

I guess we'll really find out if it's next gen when the PS4/NextBox is released and if we see the same games with the same content on the Wii-U. Judging from the powerhouse of specs on the PS4...I think this decision won't be quite so unanimous in 12 months time.

I'm pretty sure people don't count the Wii as being on the same generation as the PS3/Xbox360 on anything but a chronological level.
