I don't want to get into this, it should be clear as crystal that there's been an excessive amount of glorifying of Sony and a downplaying of other players (MS, Nintendo). No matter who you're a fan of, it's unappreciated.

I can't give you a link because if you haven't noticed it through the plethora of posts that show the obvious, a simple link will do nothing to help.

I'm sorry if I'm useless, but at least you know that it's not one single post, but a series of excessive hyping and downplaying posts/threads, and just general penis competitions. It's undesired and immature. You can say all fanbases do it, but I will go on record to say that the extreme portion of the Sony camp is the most in need of improvement, and I don't consider gaf and the over-hyping, dominative attitude over there to be free of guilt. (and yes I'm a member there)

The mods here only have so much time to deal with everyone's bickering and complaining. The best way to stop these terrible threads is to ignore them and not post in them, that way they stay out of the Hot Topics forum area.

Individual problem makers will be dealt with as they always have. It's the nonsense threads that are this forum's main concern lately, and these threads aren't the fault of any one particular camp. It is garbage threads all over, for some of the dumbest stuff.

Best bet? Ignore the threads and do not post in them. Ignore the users who bug you and report them if needed and do not quote or respond to them.

I could potentially see glorifying of Sony (although it's not even halfway close to what it was like last gen IMO). I don't see the downplay at all.

I don't really see what you're talking about. To me, it really just sounds like the same kind of self victimization you see fascists and right wingers do. Like how people on Fox news constantly cry about the "left wing media" conspiracy, while ironically being a propaganda machine themselves.

In fact, my impression is that there's been way more threads whining about fanboyism than actual fanboyism. All these meta threads and whiners are the CANCER that's killing all the decent and good threads that are about GAMING.

Holy fuck, I hate fanboyism, but I say anti-fanboyism has done more damage in terms of the the unnecessary bans dished out and the meta threads complaining about fanboyism.

Granted I hardly go through all the posts on VGC with a fine tooth comb these days, but I'm not really seeing it.

I think I've read more "these mid end specs are why PC gaming is so much more awesomer" threads. And then I think "Welcome to 2008, Captain Obvious."

PS4 specs, if finalized, are pretty much custom tailored for PC game development with the X86/GPU set up and a generous 8GB of system memory (if that's production model specs), meaning, the PS4 engineers did development studios a solid by providing them with something familiar and what should be relatively easy to develop for and optimize for, hardware-wise, right out the gate.

On the flip side, it's a lot easier to compare the hardware of the PS4 to something one could build themselves (minus the custom game system tailored operating system and custom designed components, engineered for greater synergy) and it doesn't take a PC builder to recognize there are better CPU and GPU/VGA card options using the most recent high end processors from Intel and Nvidia or AMD.

We are anti-fanboy because fanboyism makes discussion lame. The logic revolves around "My company is better than yours" and so anything in favor of company is true and anything not in favor of company is not true.

If we could actually discover patterns in users, I'm pretty certain that we'd weed out a lot of the forums in terms of low-quality chat, where nobody learns because people blur truth due to bias. It's unwanted.

More examples...

1) There was a thread relating to how diablo 3 was pretty clearly consolized. The arguments there by one of the guys (I won't say who) simply refused to discuss the points and was calling the people on the D3 forums as pure whiners. That was non-constructive and defensive of the PS4 presentation, obviously. Another user actually discussed the points, that was ok.

2) You have gifs that are made in the name of humor, but are clearly representative of some of the "domination" mentality some of the people have in the console world. Look at the gifs made for Nintendo, those for MS. Now look at those made for Sony. It's pure night and day. You'll say they're just gifs, you'll say they're just for giggles. Well, all the gifs were made for giggles, yes those for Sony have a much different tone and are made by people.

3) The incessant amount of hype around the PS4 (you conceded this one) is already a huge issue. It lead to so many threads being made you could barely keep up, and alot were duplicates. It's like as if people had gone crazy.

Fanboyism is lame, nobody's contesting that. What I do contest is the prevalence of it. There may be some threads and post during the initial rush of new information (e.g. PS4 conference or the next E3), but after a day or so, things calmed down. Now, I see this forum spending more time complaining about fanboyism, than actually discussing games. At least fanboys are good in the sense that they're still fucking talking about games.

1) Not a fan of D3, but I've heard some pundits/commentators saying that D3 is consolized. It sounds to me that you're obsessing WAYYY to much over a specific poster. Just fucking ignore him (and it sounds like he made his point and left).

2) Gifs should die purely because they clog the forum and are annoying. I have no idea what you mean about the "domination" mentality. I just see a bunch of stupid Kaz gifs. Again, you sound like you're imagining stuff.

3) THE PS4 JUST GOT FUCKING ANNOUNCED. It's been like, less than a week? Holy shit, of course there's fucking hype over it. Jesus Christ.

4) Again, things are probably excited right after the announcement. 2nd thread is shit, but the first one isn't that bad. First thread is also talking specificly about journalists (and a specific article). Again, wayyyy to sensative.

The third thread is a posting of an article. Didn't read, but if it seemed like it was about the speculation regarding MS's positioning with the X Box. Um, should we not have threads about this?
