Initial year will be great with early adopters buying it up, economic doom and gloom is funny when millions spend half a K on a phone and stand in lines like sheep for an upgrade not even a new design. Only when Nike cant sale air jordans and posts a loss, then ill take into account people ability to spend . |
Yea, we've been hearing about the economy for years, yet people keep buying consoles and games. What people fail to realize is that a lot of people, and I'm not agreeing with their decisions, put pleasure spending first. Whether it is clothing, vices, or electronics. And some of the more responsible spenders save up a few bucks every week for months until they can afford to get it.

You're completely wrong about Sony, and Nintendo, not having a vision. All three have a different vision.
Sony is taking a core gamers first approach, like they usually do. This is evident in the superior specs and the ability for Let's Players to capture and upload videos directly to Youtube/Facebook. There will always be something there for the casuals, but they are mostly focusing on the core. Only this time they are playing it smart and going with an easy to develop on HW, much to developer's joy. This will lead to equal or better multiplats and superior looking exclusives.
Nintendo is relying more on the casual market, the one's who game on tablets and phones, and those who gamed on the DS (core and casual). However, where they have gone wrong is believing that the Wii U controller is as appealing to casuals as a plain tablet or the simple Wii controller. They also were wrong when they thought that core gamers would be won over by multiplats that are on par with the versions on the PS3 and 360, even though the core gamers already own those systems.
MS seems to also be focusing more on the casual adience, as they have been doing for the past couple of years with Kinect (now Kinect 2). And like the past few years, they will be throwing the core audience a few bones. Mostly, in a machine that will still be a good leap ahead of this gen, even if the PS4 is 50% more power. They will probably rely more on 3rd parties to put core games on the system, but will still release 1-2 core games in their own franchises each year.
Nintendo's vision doesn't seem to be working out for them. We'll just have to wait and see if consumers prefer Sony's or MS's vision.
