Forums - Sony - Is the PS4's Sony's Gamecube?

I hope PS4 is the new PS1 in sales! Even better if the PS4 goes past that and is just the PS4

Damage to the brand name is done, though, especially in America.  People here no longer say playstation when they mean video games, they say xbox.

There is no damage in PlayStation brand... I live in America and I can't see that... or you are talking only about US?

Anyway the PS4 will be susseful over any consolo this gen... save my words.

I meant North America, sorry if I wasn't being inclusive. I obviously don't have a great handle on the South American market (with the exception of South American gamers living in the states, which being from Miami I know many) although it is clearly a more pro Sony territory.

Declaring a winner before you even know all the horses in the race is dangerous business, though.

I was hoping this was raising a point about chasing hardcore gamers with advanced technology, while not continuing enough real innovation to compete, kind of like Nintendo with Gamecube.

To be honest I have no idea what's going on in this thread haha.

Don't worry, I don't think most people get what's really going on here.

Given most Sony fans celebrate the PS3 sales I don't see how the third console curse is actually valid anymore...

Way way too early to predict that. Price will be a major factor, and to be honest I don't see the PS4 costing any less than $500. That's going to make it difficult to dominate and give it a rocky start much like the PS3. PS4 could very well dominate but it'll all boil down to the games, and right now we just don't know much about them, aside from Killzone, Imfamous, a sim racer, and a few others. in other words, the same games that were on PS3, and those didn't exactly help matters too much.

Oh yay, another Killzone game.

The original post and so many other comparisons are ill conceived. These are new systems in new economic conditions, this gen will play out differently. Not to mention that there are a few new players like steam and ouya (which has a similar streaming service). The PS4 looks good so far, but still expensive (I don't know whether they can get this under $450) plus a lot of the features require a PS4 plus a vita (not a cheap combo). I have been debating the Nintendo plus one console choice for this gen, and I will keep an eye on PS4 even though I am leaning toward Steambox. The PS4 is not any better spec wise than my laptop but still impressive for a console. I think the deciding factor will be game prices which is where the steambox is ahead.

I like the WiiU, I got one day one and the thing is in heavy use to this day. The PS4 looks about 2 to 4 times more powerful, and unlike those with big PS3 libraries, the shoddy backwards compatibility is not an issue (streaming games are not great everywhere bandwidth caps and so on),

For me the xbox is not in the running due to the windows 8 interface... life is just too short for that. Use it if you want to, I'll pass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WTYet-qf1jo

For the record any two or more systems plus 'duct tape' equals a sticky unusable mess, and none of the next gens appear to be duct taped anything.

Gamecube launched first... which is why I said it was the most powerful at time of launch.

Well, that's just silly. When Gamecube launched people were aware of the Xbox, and the releases really weren't very far apart.

In North America we actually got the Xbox first by 3 days.
