Forums - Sony - Is the PS4's Sony's Gamecube?

PS4 is NES proving itself to the industry. Wiiu is GC that may turn into SNES, N64, PS3, or 360.

720 is 360 that may turn into PS1. long story short. watchout for PS4 and 1440

Cannot really be compared, PS3 is very close sales wise to 1st and 2nd place. Gamecube was far behind PS2 and dreamcast killed sega.

Gamecube and Xbox basically split second place.

Still the marketshare is very different. PS3 and 360 is about 30% each, while the gamecube and xbox is about 10-12% each. And that is just HW.

OP doesn't even make sense. There was no "PS2" this generation. It's not the Wii, because dropped off in sales before Wii U even came along.
Just because you have something happen last gen, doesn't mean some company will take it's place next gen. There was a time 3 consoles couldn't co-exist.

If you mean which console will come 1st, 2nd, 3rd, say so.

And Nintendo didn't just come off a disater in the Saturn and isn't in a terrible financial mess as a company, but it's still the Dreamcast.  Let's not split hairs here.

As I said it just cannot really be compared because of all these factors. Your OP should be more specific imo.

Well no, the analogy is this gen of consoles to gen 5 analogy, and the upcoming gen to  gen 6, so there would be no PS2.  The closest we get is the 360 as the PS1, oddly enough.

it's not possible unless it becomes profitable in a short time after it's release and don't see that happening

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

no. PS2 hype killed dreamcast. and fake "gameplay" tech demos.

Hey, someone agrees with me here. I picked my American Dreamcast system up day one ( I already had an import from Japan). The PS2 release was still a year off, yet they had huge promo posters and banners at the local Babbage's, Electronic Boutique's and Fun Co Land. I new the store manager at Electronic Boutique, and he told me that Sony had secret shoppers that would visit game stores and ask about competing systems. If the salesperson would try to steer them toward a Sony product instead, they could win a price for it. He talked about trips that were given out.

The power of the Dreamcast and PS2 real world were very close. One year later and Nintendo releases the Gamecube and MS the Xbox, both of which were far more powerful than the PS2. Rarely does the more powerful system win.

I thought the Xbox beat the Gamecube pretty soundly.

You thought that because you live in America.

Haha, maybe.
