Design for both consoles was fixed a LONG time ago. Two years or more. It isn't something that can be swapped out, validated, and put into mass production in six months.

Secondly, when has a single spec ever decided the fate of a console?

and with that said, games have already been optimized for each console, so any changes now...........just read what soleron said.

secondly. never. not to mention, the most powerful console, has never won the war. things look to change on that front.

Wasn't the Super NES more powerful than the Genesis? Yep, thought so!

i don't go back that far lol. i'm bad when it comes to tech. maybe the number 1 selling console manufactor (Sony) can do the hat trick lol.

what about the SNES?

The SNES did win the generation though CGI. Not in all regions but globally it did.

You quoted wrong dude, bruh!

I'm all confused with you said what....ahhhh pssshhhh. :P

The Sony solution has more grunt, but it smells PS3 all over again.

You need to go to the doctor to have your nose checked.

Couldn't third party game developers just tell MS that their console will be less powerful than the PS4? I mean, game developers would want both consoles to be equally powerful.

The power difference between PS4 and Xbox3 is non-relevant. On the paper the PS3 has more power than Xbox360, but most multi-games looks only as good or better on Xbox360.

The power difference between Wii U and PS4 seems to be not that big too, even the difference between PS3 and PS4 is not that big.

Not much of a difference between you and Einstein either.

It's the third time I have to say it, I'm talking $$$, not ease of programing.

And for the second time I have to say it, you need to go to the doctor to have your nose checked.

PS4 will NOT cost $900 to manufacture

PS4 will NOT cost $600 at retail.

Seems like Sony gave MS a big heads up on their console by dropping the 8GB GDDR5 RAM thing. Dollars to donughts that MS will now be under pressure to match and they have time now to react.

Sony should've kept that quiet until E3 or even afterwards to the point where MS couldn't have possibly changed their spec.

You can't just "change your RAM to GDDR5" like swapping a T-shirt.

Unless MS go back to the drawing and every dev starts remaking their game, they can't just upgrade their RAM.

I think it's funny how many people dismissed the idea of having 8GB RAM on a console. And now, bang, both next gen consoles have 8GB just like Epic, Crytek and DICE were asking for.

Anyone who dismissed it simply knew nothing about gaming. All new major engines need at least 8GB of RAM, so either the consoles matched, or they had no games.

Is GDDR3 really that slow? Is it the bottleneck slowing down the cpu/gpu?

Isn't GDDR5 is like a superhighway with 8 lanes where only 4 lanes ever get filled, or something like that?

Why? There is something that most people seem to forget, right now there aren't on the market 4 Gb GDDR5 chips, so Sony will have to use 16 chi

If you shop around, you'll note that gddr5 chips come in 1Gbit and 2Gbit sizes. It takes 32 chips to get 8GByte (=64Gbit) of memory. That is a lot of real estate on a console pcb. I doubt stacked memory (if available at all) would be cheaper than real estate, in the end.

http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/product/graphic-dram/catalogue?iaId=917

You can get 4Gb GDDR5 chips, so only 16 chips required for 8GB.

Mirosoft could go the DDR 5 route and even add more Ram but it would make their console more expensive. Also at worst for Sony the thing that would probably happen for them is the 720 could win America but PS4 would win everywhere else like with the PS3. The big thing for Microsoft is being able to demonstrate that they can make more than 2 games in two worn out series.

Way too late for that.
