hoq much does 8gb gddr5 go for?

Let me summarize how insane this really is.

"I have 8gig GDDR5 ram in my PC"

SAID, NO ONE EVER

You have 8gigs of ddr5 ram in your PC? You sure you aren't thinking of ddr3? You can't even purchase ddr5 for a motherboard yet. Unless u have quad sli each card using 2gb of ddr5.

No i dont lol, Did you highlight the black spoiler bar?

Huge... I think even Microsoft was surprised with that news.

I don't think so ;) Given what insiders shout to gaming-forums you can be sure even more information goes to MS on secret ways.

Why would they be suprised? The PS4 hase more RAM than expected, but all other rumors were pretty much true.

Yes, exactly. Look, both use AMD-tech - don't tell me that there are two seperate teams at AMD working for PS4 and x3ox *and* they are both kept in a cage so that both don't share any information. AMD is tightly involved in the whole system-setup to make both consoles work with maximum performance compliant with the targets of Sony and MS.

Apparently it was quite a recent change according to Mark Rein on GT but one they were lobbying for for a long time (probably why most of the earlier rumors mentioned 4GB GDDR5) so in fact MS and others may have actually been surprised. I know I was!

Not that it matters in the slightest, if Sony can change out the ram in a short time frame so can MS.

It could also mean that all the rumors spreading out in gamer-forums are based on dev-kits which are quite old.

Consider the following.
Assume the rumors of the final retail units for the next xbox are true and it uses 8GB DDR3, to 1-up Sony they switch it to 12GB, or 16GB, it's still a problem, because:

- DDR3 - Enjoy your $500+ console for 12gb, $550-$599 for 16gb
- Increase in memory from 8GB to anything higher won't actually make much of a difference at all for 1080p because the amount of resources you can cram in to a single scene is limited, hence why modern day graphics cards use a hell of a lot more ram the higher you bump your resolution, but the general normal is that about 2gb is enough for 1080p - on top of that though you have the issue of the bandwidth limiting the next xbox's performance.

I'll give you an idea of what Microsoft are probably thinking right now:
"Damn, our industry spies were right, it has a crazy amount of ram, we can't afford to bump up ours without taking a significant loss on each console, lets just stick with the plan and hope our broader approach to putting a game playing windows 8 media center in every home has wings for both our gaming sector and our OS sector.

The one thing you can take away from this is basically that there is virtually no possibility in hell now, if leaked durango specs are to be believed (given the closeness of the ps4 specs we can assume the durango ones are more or less accurate too), that the durango will be able to outperform the orbis in any area.

Rumor has it that Xbox next console will have significantly less

In size no, in speed yes.

Not any more. Balmer made the call 30s after the PS4 RAM reveal: put GDDR5 in that box boys, we ain't losing no fanboi RAM warz.

If the Durango leak is correct, MS has engineered for lower-speed ram by using an ESRAM framebuffer which will save a lot of money in unit costs. And stating that MS bumping their spec to GDDR5 would lead to significant loss directly implies that Sony are either going to eat a significant loss or release an expensive console.
