No the light up part is only to show what controller you are.
Assuming you can pick a color you want. So it would be blue or red or green, ect. Seems very large and bright for a pointless feature.
That's one thing I hate on electronics, is the light that shows somethings on, or even worse when there is a light to show its off

The Options button = Select Button. Start button has been next to useless for almost a decade so they got rid of it.

I'm pretty sure they said it can be used to track the controller position in 3d.
