Price is what worries me, 8GB doesn't come cheap, and Sony should profit on each unit sold.

We don't know yet, I recommend waiting the teardown before we get any expectations.
PS: Awesome sig.

In 6 years, when 8gb of ram is common place, the PS4 will still be being sold, so 8gb is not unnecessary. PLus, they'll be using the ram for things other than gaming while you're gaming.
I am the Playstation Avenger.

So, what? Is half of that DDR3, or something? That would make more sense...

Yes it is average. A 7870 is a mid range GPU in the PC world.

how do you know this, i doubt sony is stupid, they wouldn't be throwing moiney away like that unless there was a huge benefit.

Where has it been said its a 7970m? I must have missed the part where they went into detail about the parts of the console.

Yes I understand that but I really think Sony should have gone maybe 4gb ddr5 for gaming purposes and maybe 4gb ddr3 for everything else. Sure in the long run it may be beneficial but wasn't the cell supposed to be beneficial in the long run too? I'm just thinking that Sony might be digging themselves in a financial hole again. If Durango specs hold true then it is likely that Microsoft can easily launch for $100 less than ps4 which may be fatal. If Sony plays hard ball and decide to match whatever price Microsoft sets then they will lose quite a bit of money for each unit sold.

And your magical PC will run the game EXACTLY the same. Because the game is written with 32bit code and uses the 2G of your ram it is allowed to use. The rest of your 64G ram will be used to heat up your room (which is cool in winter when it is cold). |
Really? I didn't know? I honestly thought that PC RAM was magical. There are games that utilize more than 2GB of RAM, I hope you know that. Bethesda aren't the only ones making games for the PC and not everyone is running 32bit systems any more (I run 64bit Win 7). A lot of DX 11 and 12 games have and will have support for a lot more than 2GB or RAM and unless you're still on Win XP, you'll be able to use more with your OS as well.
The point I'm trying to make is; why get excited over this at all? It says nothing about what kind of experiences the console will give us.
