Forums - Nintendo - What did we do to deserve this?? o.o

Don't worry, these are HD games. So I'm sure Mario Kart is like, four years away from being done.

What you can expect is gameplay/screenshots of the titles instead of them just namedropping them

Even at last year's E3, at which point they had already started doing the ND videos, there were still some very cool announcements--Scribblenauts U, Nintendo Land, Zombi U, and (oh, yeah) PIKMIN 3!!! *insert squee here*

So, as great as all these announcements have been, I guarantee there will be asome awesome unknowns shown at E3 as well.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I think everyone having lofty expectations for E3 from Nintendo will be sorely disappointed. This slew of game announcements is a clear panic move, a desperate attempt to spurr hardware sales that are dropping into the void. I think this years E3 will be a massive letdown to a lot of people, I stopped putting any stock in E3 a long time ago, the whole event has changed and its not what it used to be.

That's my take on it anyway, Nintendo are stressed like never before, we could even see them pull stupid stunts in the near future (a price cut they can't afford which will panic investors and show weakness to consumers, and it might not even make a huge difference). They never had the habbit of announcing games en masse like this but this has also turned into a good thing now, apparently (it was smart not to announce for the Wii ahead of time, according to a lot of people).

Okay, I'm a litle afraid. As of today, over the past three weeks, Nintendo has announced a new Wii U Zelda, a remake of Wind Waker, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, new 3D Mario, a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles, Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and Mario & Luigi for 3DS, among others, in addition to saying Animal Crossing releases in June, New Super Mario U will be getting DLC of a size that is equivalent to a full new game, and a whole bunch of great eShop games I haven't played are going on sale.

Now, what worries me is, besides the fact that I can't afford a quarter of all that: If they can afford to drop all these bombs on us on any given Thursday, what the hell are we in for at E3?? o.O

All the WiiU games you mentioned above as they're announced but don't have footage.

Good point.  While I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's games and I generally like their public figures like Reggie, Iwata, and Miyamoto (a personal idol of mine), I never agreed with that particular strategy.  I agree, if they announce a game and it then takes forever to come out, it can make me antsy, and if it's too long I may lose some interest, but it's important to reaffirm the expectations of both their stockholders and their fans that their system has a healthy library and a long life ahead of it.

We'll probably just hear about two or three new titles at E3. The only reason they're showing their hand now is because they know they need to start turning their financials around ASAP. Iwata's job is (allegedly) on the line!

Its actually one of the worst things from the 7th generation, announcing a title two years or more before they release. Hype builds up and people are left disappointed no matter what. The end result will only very rarely live up to a long period of hyping. Long development cycles are really annoying. Movies do the same thing, I've seen trailers several times already this year which say; "coming september 2014" or something akin, what's the point? And if they have a decently fleshed out product to take samples for the trailer from, what the hell are they spending that one-to-two years extra on?

Its good to know that the Wii U is getting a batch of quality games though, the launch line-up wasn't bad at all but I think they relied on the wrong things to carry hardware sales through the difficult february/march/april months (there's almost always something big in may).
