Forums - Gaming - I think its time for Gearbox to call it quits with shooters outside of Borderlands.

Its about damn time. I mean, Borderlands is great  but I think these guys need to move on outside of that franchise. It took them, what twelve years to gather the resources for a played out Duke Nukem game and now this? I've been waiting for Colonial Marines since last generation on the PS2 and not only did they fail to meet deadlines, but the game essentially failed. People have been trying to get me hyped about this game, but I just cannot do it. It's been too long and with the track record of Gearbox "fixing games" with their know how theres no reason for faith. Colonial Marines will be lucky to average 6.0's acrosss the board. What do you guys think?

I think there is a difference between Gearbox when a company says..."Make this game for us, here is money" and..."Let's make this game cause we have a cool idea how to do it".

Borderlands, Brothers in Arms were their games where Duke Nukem and A:CM are other companies games which Gearbox got the contract to make.

There might be extenuating circumstances with Colonial Marines. I know there was with Duke Nukem, so I don't really hold that game against them.

I mean, if you think about it, the game was started in 2008. We know things have happened since them, with layoffs and other games, and who knows what the funding situation with Sega was like. Sega can't even make another Valkyria Chronicles or Bayonetta on their own. I'm guessing that it was just a very troubled development cycle.

I think another shooter would be fine but they should probably stay away from properties owned by other companies. Likewise, everyone should probably stay away from Sega.

I dont think you can really use Duke as a justification for what you want here.

Gearbox didnt make Colonial Marines or Duke Nukem.

You're all saying they never made the game from the beginning, yet I know this. They cannot save the games, and this shows a failure in their ability not just to fix things but to make large scale games outside of borderlands. If they cannot build ontop of what is there and fix it up to modern standards they have a huge problem. The top companies can handle a task like this on a two to three year develoment scale. Guerilla could do it, I'm sure 343 could do it, Sony Santamonica definitely could do it, Naughty Dog? Hell yes! Bioware!?...Dream game. Gearbox? Double fail. Do you want to see a third? They want another crack at Duke Nukem after that failure last year.

Borderlands 2 disagrees with you. It is a different thing dealing with a game building it ground up and picking up an already broken game trying to fix what went wrong with it.

I didn't find Borderlands 1 to be that great either. Take away the art style and it's pretty boring

They way I see it is if Gearbox didn't make Duke or Aliens, no one would. I'm glad the games came out regardless of their final state. Did anybody honestly expect a game 12 years ago to be any good? Aliens CM looks like most of its development was done in 2008.
