Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Live Counts Active Users! +46m are ACTIVE USERS - Not All-Time Members.

Again, Microsoft only Reports ACTIVE USERS (i.e have at least signed once in the last 8 months).

IF THEY WERE GOING TO REPORT MEMBER SINCE 2005 THERE WOULD VE OVER 100 MILION SINCE HALO 3 ALONE WAS CLOSING 25M LAST YEAR ON LEADERBOARDS.

If Halo 3 was closing 25 milions players that means Call o Duty is way above 30, all of them alone on Xbox Live.

Ballmer said this long time ago on a e3 interview.

When Most people have made 3 free 1 month accounts just to boost Halo 3 ranks or boost Call of Duty prestiges.

This Active, not all-time... All- Time is above 100m, you can bet on that.

NOTE: ACTIVE USERS ALSO MEANS SILVER MEMBERS, SO, NO. THERE ARE NOT 46M GOLD MEMBERS BUT YES THERE WILL BE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Lol sign in once in 8 months and you're active? How arbitrary is that?

Tell me how on an install base of 74m are there 100m accounts?

No need bloat numbers here...oh wait, I guess there is...lol once in 8 months. Sounds like facebook.

@OP Yes I was noticing this yesterday as well.  som people was coming in just to say they wasnt interested or how they dont see why people are celebrating.  XBL is a beast regardless if "some" people disageree with subscription models.

Personally I love XBL and I dont think there is a better service out there. Not just because party chat because steam can do that too, but because XBLA, the OS, Party chat, kinect use, video chat, etc and the exculisive multiplayer games like Halo, gears, minecraft and all the timed exclusives as well like Call of Duty DLC, GTA DLC, etc I mean how many timed exclusives has XBL gotten this generation? I know it is a lot and people buy this stuff on XBL as well. I mean look at games like minecraft that has sold 5m, or Castle crashers with 3m. Trials Evolution has sold over 1m this year as well.

I did over 6 accounts on Live because my Live expired and i used the Free 1 month Trials that i had (3 per Console), i owned 2 Xbox 360s.

100m is minimum, there must be way more. Again Halo 3 alone had 25m users as last year. Not even counting Call of Duty, GTA, Fifa, Gears of War, Madden.

Active on the other hand is 46m.

So i had 6 months of Free Live Gold, im a member from almost 7 years now.

PSN

Damn you beat me to my edit. I don't want to bring PSN into this, seems pretty off topic since it isn't even mentioned in the OP - but I am curious if we get any figures about actives (with qualifications like "one sign-in in 8 months").

Right, those other 5 accounts are now expired. So why are you lumping in total accounts in with active accounts? I mean the OP is about active accounts, not total accounts. Seems kinda silly to even consider expired accounts that no one will ever use again. Or am I misunderstanding?

In regard to 25m for Halo - are you saying there is no overlap between people who play Halo and people who play CoD, GTA, Fifa, Gears, Madden? Not following your logic here.

Is this a serious question?
At home we have 4 people playing on Xbox Live everyday with their own account (my 2 boys, my wife and myself) and my situation is far from being unique.
I suspect it is the same on PSN for Playstation owners.

OP: Impressive numbers :)

Those accounts arent counted anymore  BUT IF i log in to any of these it will be counted again as active.

You dont really need to do anything, probably even if you log in on Xbox.com it counts like Active.

Signing on once every 8 months sounds pretty active to me.
