Yeah it is simple. The Playstation was never actually called the PS-X. Anyone who called it that was calling it by an obsolete name, and anyone who currently does it isn't just reffering to an obsolete name, they are using the name of an entirely different console.

There really isn't anything more to say - I'm not sure what your intentions are...The PSX is the name for a PS2 DVR, never was and never has been an official name for the Playstation therefore there is no reason to refer to the Playstation as the PSX.

My intentions are to show that this thread is stupid, and that your telling others that using it is a mistake is stupid.

Those are my intentions, and I stand by them.

And you should keep doing it until he realizes how silly he is being.

Why is it irrelevant....It actually exists and you can't just dismiss it The PSX we are talking about is THE actual PSX console whos name was given to it by THE Creators of Playstation.....There is no deneying fact

Playstation
Playstation 2
PSX
PSP
PS3

Officially its just the Playstation, some code name that stuck is irrelevant

Why is it irrelevant when it was established by pretty much everyone, and used to this day by millions of people? This PSX you speak of was released in what, one region? Nobody knows or cares about it, yet millions of people still know the original PlayStation as the PSX. If Sony decided to name this thing the PSX as well, that's their problem. And by the way, what kind of morons would name it the PSX, after their first system was already known as the PSX by countless people?

I think you're shouting at the wrong people.

A commonly misheld abbreviation for it. It officially was never abbreviated to PSX - that was a term for the devs. Plus you have to consider if PSX was an official term for it, then why did they name a later console the PSX?

Magazines are not inherently true. Some people derped hard and kept on using the dev term for it once it had been released to the consumer. In other words, parts of the media misled the public.

So basically your argument is that if it's not official, don't use it.

Well, that's just dumb, sorry. It's an unofficial name, just like Kaz is an unofficial name for Kazuo Hirai. Should we stop using that too?

Good God.

We get it, it's unofficial. Is that it? Cause we knew that since page 2 and well before that.

We don't call the 360 the Xenon, so why call the Playstation the PSX? More so when the PSX is an entirely different console it only makes sense to use a smarter abbreviation instead of potentially causing confusion between the two. This is further highlighted as the term "PSX" wasn't particuarly used outside of the USA to refer to the Playstation - the term never appeared in the Official Playstation Magazine.

Your argument is silly and this thread is pointless.

I want you to step away from video games for a minute and consider the difference between scientific names and common names. I'm sure you are smart enough to know what these are so I'm not going to define them. I'm also sure you will agree that most things in this world have more than one name and often have countless names including several official names.

Ok, now I'm going to go into an example: Great White

What did you think of when you read "Great White" above? I'm serious, I want you to reply with an answer.

Was it the 80s-90s band? Did you think of an animal? There's the Great White Owl, Great White Heron, Great White Pelicon, Great White Egret, and of course the Great White Shark. Most people would think of the Great White Shark officially called Carcharodon Carcharias. It has many other names like Tommy Shark, Upfin, White Pointer, etc.

If on a shark forum people are discussing sharks and someone says that the "White" is a deadly beast, nobody is going to think they are talking about the Great White Owl. The same would be true if someone in that shark forum refered to the Tommy Shark or the White Death. Shark fans know what shark fans are talking about.

Now I want you to step back into the world of video games and consider how the common usage of PSX for the original Playstation is no different than Great White is for Carcharodon Carcharias. You may prefer PS1, but that does not invalidate the majority who use PSX. Some people refer to the Great White Shark as simply Man Eater while others use the term  Man Eater for Tiger Sharks. Neither is wrong nor is using both PSX and PS1/PSone.

Get over it. Those who use PSX aren't stupid and they aren't ignorant of the PS2 DVR unit of the same name. The majority don't care about the PSX and don't talk about it. On a video game forum if someone says that the best PSX game is Metal Gear Solid you can be 100% sure that they aren't talking about some PS2 DVR game that you missed out on. Gamers know what gamers are talking about.

I call it PSX because that's the name it was known for back then.

Yes calling a console the correct name and not the name of another console is silly.

How arrogant can people really be? This is good proof though why democracy is a bad idea as it shows people will just follow the masses and never ask the question "why?" Did no one ever ask "hang on, there's no fucking X in Playstation, why are we adding one?"

Those who use PSX are obviously ignorant to both the origin of the name and existance of the actual PSX. Oh right they don't care about it, so it's okay. Nope, that's just them being arrogant and shit at communication.

How? Explain why what I'm saying is childish.

To the OP, you are just being foolish.

We call a facial tissue a Kleenex, even though that's not technically correct, it is just what became popular in our culture (in Merkuh that is). Similarly, Playstation was referred to as PSX, by EVERYONE when it was out. Magazines, on TV, in game stores, and even on the fledgling internet. You can't just re-write history, this is what everyone called it, and guess what, it stays. Just like most of us old heads would have called NES "a Nintendo" back in the day, so do we say PSX. It was ours, we were there, and you obviously weren't. That is OK, and you can call the PSX the Playstation, or the PS1 or whatever you want, I don't really care. But I was there in its heyday and I am calling it a PSX because this in-betweener console you speak of is irrelevant.

This topic is finished, and the OP is wrong. OLD FUCKING PEOPLE FOR THE WIN.

I got the Official UK PS magazine here in South Africa and as such I've been aware of the usage of 'PSX' since 1997. Just because you don't know something doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

Kinda makes it funny that you're getting your panties in a twist.

Calling the PS is PSX is just like calling the 360 the Xenon.

All that has been shown is that game reporters back then obviously weren't the brightest sparks.

No it's not like calling the 360 the Xenon. Here are some key differences:

1) Xenon refers to the 360's processor. PSX was a codename for the console.

2) No-one ever called the 360 the Xenon. Usage of PSX was widespread.

From Wiki:

"The PlayStation (Japanese: プレイステーション Hepburn: Pureisutēshon?, officially abbreviated as PS; sometimes referred to as PS1, or unofficially as the PSX[10]"

My conclusion?

You don't know how to use analogies in the slightest.

Xenon referes to the 360 code name, just as PSX referes to the PS' code name.

There is absolutely no difference.

My conclusion: You don't know how to click a reference link.

"10^ PS-X (PlayStation Experimental) was an internal code name for the PlayStation during development.[9] The popular use of the "PSX" abbreviation outside Sony became a source of confusion when Sony Of Japan ignored Sony of America's decision and introduced its PSX digital video recorder in 2003."

"There is absolutely no difference. "

Then why has NO-ONE, EVER referred to the 360 as the Xenon post release!? Eh genius!? ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE MY ASS.
