A newspaper from here said something like "Sony is going ahead of Microsoft and will release the PlayStation 4 earlier than them" even though we're not even sure if they're going to announce it on Feb 20th (it's highly probable though) and we don't know any release date from Sony or Microsoft. It also said the Wii U and the 3DS sales are very disappointing in the same article. Usually newspapers journalists know way less than we do about this kind of stuff because they aren't all day long reading rumours and news on gaming websites. That doesn't mean what this newspaper says isn't true, we'll have to take it as just another rumour...

The price sounds ok to me... if it's 399-449 US dollars then it's going to be around 850-1000 US dollars here xD

considering how much the yen went down in the past weeks and this will continue and that Europeans have always to pay the same price in euro americans pay in dollar it could be around 299-349 euro/dollar at the end of the year.

Not me, I am sick of this generation, I will pay what it costs.

Yep, $399 for America would be the ideal. Have PAL and JP regions eat up the cost like always.

For comparison, upon release in 2006 the PS3 cost around 60,000 yen in its more expensive configuration, and $599 in the US. Meanwhile, the cheapest PS3 now costs 24,980 yen in Japan versus $269 in the US. Were the PS4 to launch at 40,000 yen in Japan, we'd expect an American price of around $400 or more.

The Asahi Shimbun further corroborates things we've heard from other reports, such as a 2013 launch for the US and Japan — no mention was made of Europe, suggesting the release there may well slip into 2014. Elsewhere, the report says that the PS4 controller will feature a touch pad and be "roughly the same shape" as the current Dual Shock 3. Finally, the Asahi Shimbun states in no uncertain terms that February 20th is the date when we'll hear all this information confirmed for real.

It says that ps4 will cost more than 40k yen, so, ´people here just read the 40k number but forget the word over, this over can mean even 50k+ yen.

Wii U is 26,250 Yen in Japan / 31,500 Yen in Japan, $300 / $350 in the US.

I would expect 40,000 Yen in Japan for PS3 to be $450 in the US. 

Rule of thumb for new consoles is take the price of the console from your company that is still on the market and add $200-$300 to it. Wii was $130 last year, Wii U sold for effectively $330ish, PS3 is $250, PS4 will be $450. Old consoles used to be $100 or so when successors arrived, but that isn't really true anymore.

Depends... If it is light-years better than the WiiU, 450 could be okay. Remember, the WiiU have 8GB-32GB of memory, that alone add at least another 50 dollars of cost to have a half decent hard drive...

i'm still missing games i want so this gen. isn't quite over for me.
