Microsoft Studios Vancouver is looking for an experienced SDE to join a team working on Xbox 360 related interactive entertainment experiences. The Software Development Engineer will design, implement, and debug software for streamed video decompression and playback technologies on different platforms to deliver web services and Xbox clients that form part of a new interactive broadcasting experience with strong social aspects. Our ideal candidate must be familiar with the block-based hybrid video coding standards (MPEG-2, H.263/MPEG-4, and H.264), and with other issues related to video decompression such as motion estimation, video profiles and file formats, audio/video synchronization, color-space conversion, 2K/4K/8K resolutions, and Transport Streams. A good foundation of mathematical knowledge is highly desirable as well as experience with low-level system functions such as process management and concurrency. In this role, the SDE will work closely with our internal Microsoft partners as well as our external video feed providers so communication skills are essential as well.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- Solid experience in writing video decompression and video processing software.
- Experience with stream-based media players, MPEG2 TS and other streamed media formats plus associated authentication and rights management.
- Good knowledge of block-based hybrid video coding standards.
- Good overall knowledge of the issues involved in video compression/decompression.
- C/C++ (minimum of 5 years’ experience)
- Video compression technologies (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVC/H.264)
- Video encoding experience.
- Video for Windows / DirectX11 (Media Foundation)
- Experience with current-generation consoles or embedded real-time systems at the lowest level is a plus.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic environment.
- Troubleshooting and complex problem management.
- Excellent team player with strong work ethics, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced agile (Scrum) development environment.
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering or related area, Masters preferred.

Let's play the name game. I think XBOX ∞ is the most logical since it is a sideways 8 tying in to windows yet it won't become obsolete when the next operating system is released.

My gut however believes it is XBOX: GOLD. This really ties in to xbox live and goes with the always on always connected rumors. They really want to push the subscription next gen.
