Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Q3 FY2012 - $124m loss, PS3+PS2 6.8m, PSV+PSP 2.7m

No game related question in the conference call guys.

Sony is trimming the fat, overall sales and revenue are up YoY, Game is down and will continue going down until Vita sells better and PS4 launches. Things look much better and the restructering is working but they're not there yet. SNE is at its highest position since may 2012 and I stand by my prediction it will hit $25 this year.

honestly no, kowen has that thread of quarterly shipments though. last year Q4 they shipped 8 million and ended the year with 15 million. that means over 50% of the 360's sold is in their last quarter. and about 60% of the 360% sales this year were in Q4, holiday centric indeed, and that will come back to bite 360 in the ass this year with next gen consoles releasing and hype for current gen decrease dramtically in the holidays. mark my work, ps3 will pass 360 this year then it will fly far away from it, once its all said and done it will end no less than 7 million units more sold then 360.  and sony expects 13M in 2013? or you mean their earlier preictions of 13 million fisical year 2012?

13 million in FY2012 (end in March 2013)... they are on track to that the forecast is the same 16 million (13m PS3 and 3m PS2).

I expect 11 million PS3 for the next FY even with PS4 launch in Q3.

i expect 10 million. sales in the US have been low and i think sony will hold on until Q3 to make a price drop to earn more cash out of the ps3, specially that they earn more from each unit with the new slim

yes net income for each devision was higher than last year except for gaming, which is understable looking at the vita's poor performace. its will take some more time but sony is getting back on track

from the accounts - outlook:

In the digital imaging and the game businesses, which are positioned as core areas of the electronics businesses along with the mobile businesses, the shrinking market for compact digital cameras, due to the expansion of the smartphone market, and the slow penetration of the PlayStation®Vita portable entertainment platform are recognized as particularly important issues. Sony is working to improve profitability through reinforcement of its high value added products that are differentiated by the use of highly competitive image sensors developed by Sony. In the game business, Sony is working to expand sales and operating income through the introduction of an attractive software lineup and through offering game software on mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.

How does the last sentence help the first sentence? lol

"attractive software lineup" help the first sentence... Vita needs that.

Mobile Products and Home Entertainment should return to profitability this quarter.

Anyway do you expect the 360 to end with 105 million sales lifetime?

looks like you edited this, well 360 is at 76 million, it will probably do 7~8 million this year and another 7~8 million the rest of its life. so thats 14 to 16 million which will put it around 90~92 million. over 50% of 360 sales are in the usa. next gen consoles will release this year and will pretty much destroy current gen consoles sales in usa. hence the 360's overall sales falling dramitcally. also in the last 2 years about 56% of 360 sales were in the holiday quarter alone. it was because of the kinect+CoD hype that made those sales, again next gen consoles will kill that hype resulting in 360 sales in the holiday period to drop pretty bad. ps3 has much healthier sales all year around and outside of the us, also in emerging markets where adabtion rates of next gen consoles are much slower than in the usa. all resutling in the ps3's favor in the long run when it comes to selling even after next gen consoles are released. at the moment ps3 is around 75million give or take. next year i expect 10 million and then another 12~14 million the rest of its life. putting it at around 97~99 million. then sony might keep it a bit longer to just scrap the 100 million mark

I shadow edited .

I asked that because the PS3 sales will ends 110-115m liferime... so 360 needs to get close to 105m to be 7 million behind.
