There are just as many articles boasting Sony but people tend to ignore what they "agree" with and emphasize what they don't.

I normally discourage those but people seem to think that because of the overall bad financial standing of the company that they can't spend money on anything now.  As in they won't advertise or have to sell PS4 at a profit, which I think is ridiculous.  Personally I'm not predicting anything as this generation proved the previous one means very little in determining the next.  People who make safe bets like "MS will win America, Sony Europe, and Nintendo Japan" are just using this gen as indicators ignoring all the variables that still are left unresolved.  Price is a pretty big freaking deal and we don't know what MS or Sony will price their machines.  I don't think power will matter that much as I don't think MS or Sony be powerful enough that devs will want to take advantage with multiplats (just like PS360 it didn't other than a few Sony 1st party titles).  Will MS have a subscription based model?  Will Sony charge for online?  What exclusives will there be ready?  The release dates are hopefully both for this holiday so we can have an even competition there (at least between the MS and Sony), but what about streaming?  What about BC?  I'll wait till at LEAST the 20th to decide.  My personal way of looking at it is MS had 4 HUGE advantages this gen (price, release date, architecture, and exclusives at the start when they matter a lot more).  What happened?  They are going to end up last.  If the 2 biggest of those are taken away (price and release date) then we could see a very large shift towards Sony.  But maybe I'm wrong and xbox brand is too big in US and UK now.  Maybe MS will make some monstrously powerful console and destroy the competition.  Maybe MS doesn't care as long as their OS dominance is protected so they'll just take a $200 loss and undercut Sony that way.   Who the hell knows at this point?

To be honest, everyone was a winner this generation. 80M consoles for a 3rd place by generation end is a complete success.

Now coming next gen every company has advantages and disavantages but i don't think any particular company will have an absolute advantage like Sony and the PS2.

It's too soon to predict how the battle between MS and Sony will unfold at this point but i'll wager that they won't be much different than the 7th gen. The biggest question i have right now is Microsoft's plan for Japan. Microsoft has "failed" in japan twice now and the thought of them trying a third time is hard to justify. While many will argue that Japan is becoming more and more a joke market, japanese games will still add variety to a library and incentives to buy a console over the other. Personally i prefer the X360 feature set better but i also wish for the same game variety that the PS3 enjoys. If the PS4 fixes some of the issues i have with the PS3 then i'll be very inclined to go with a PS4 next gen instead of an Xbox.

yo, you claim as if wii u has been out for awhile. CALM DOWN, its like ps3 came out, you cant judge intil later on, your judging a system thats been out for barely two months.

ask more people here that kno me, sure im a nintendo fan, but also liked other consoles. Im more of an xbox fan but doesn't mean i hate sony, you clearly do (hate nintendo). Im agreeing wit you on ps2 best sellung console but otherr topics that ds wins you ignore? How ignorant can you get?

dont listen to him, he's trying to troll nintendo fans. Wii U needs time to start just like any other new console. wat he fails to realize is two things, 1. ps3 and xbox have a cheaper price tag with a 7 year library of games. 2. No software is out yet. How can you judge this? you cant! Its like a sports game, wii u is still in the 1st quarter! Too early to say anything

Nintendo DS, and looking at 3DS vs Vita levels... almost the same again but this time around you have to factor in the mobile market. 3DS isn't dominating everything when you factor in mobile games.

 

Though honestly I don't see any company pulling off what the PS2 or DS did. Theres just more competition and not a single game company since then has proven their experience was unique enough. Even with the Wii Motion controls came the Kinect which sold damn well, and Sony had the PSMove which was damn good. Wii still has a solid lead but when the PS3/360 continue to sell more units the gap is getting quite smaller. 40% market share (and growing smaller) is hardly dominating. 



It's just that simple.
