Forums - Nintendo - Wii U: Nintendo 'Got It Wrong With This Console' - Pachter

  • Nintendo's forecast was puzzling considering their planned release schedule
  • Nintendo can still rebound; tablet is not a confirmed misfire yet
  • Nintendo has delayed software meant to be released already (supposedly).

Nintendo really dropped the ball on promotion. I have not seen a single advertisement for the Wii U anywhere, ever since its launch. Seriously. Not a TV ad, not a newspaper/magazine clipping, nor an internet ad on more popular non-gaming websites.

I prefer a Nintendo with their backs against the wall. They did not truly realize why the Wii became the success that it did. Often times companies with such astronomical growth do not understand the full natue of their success. Sometimes it is just right place right time, lightning in a bottle.

Western third parties cannot be relied upon to spur sales in America so Nintendo has to coordinate the software output better. 3DS I am not concerned about; it will kill this year.

For Wii U (and every console they've released), they should know that software droughts cause hardware failure. If you want to succeed, make consumers wet.

That is laughable. Pachter really has gone down in quality and he really doesnt get it.

I used to like him, but his repeated nonsensical doom prediction of Nintendo already became something of a habit. Pachter, call us again in 2 years. We will be here again to show you how wrong you were.

His statement is incredibly ridiculous when he says that if all had equal pricing and power Nintedo would still lose. Nintendo has the most vastly appealing first party portfolio. If 3rd parties would release the same game on all consoles, the Wii U would win the race off their first party strength alone. I am convinced that Mr. Pachter has secondary motivators to make him say these things and it isnt accuracy.

Oh boy.

the stupid part is thinking nintendo has played their hand alreafy.
the dangerous thing is that he is conditioning new gamers and casuals to wxpect early price drops on consoles.

This seemed so promising at 1st, the Wii was more succesful because it focused on casual gamers

... Now if they had only released it in 2010 or 2011, things might be different.

They wouldn't have had many first party games though, and that's what drives their sales.  When they switched from Wii to WiiU development they took into account that there would be an increased development time with the new HD hardware.  I think that transition is part of the reason why they let the original Wii slow down and die like they did with minimal support in the last few years.  If they released the WiiU back then there would be bigger droughts on the system.

What if Zelda Wind Walker had been a launch title on the WiiU?

The First Zelda in HD, use the tablet for some mini games withing the game, do you think it would have changed the outcome?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Wii had momentum going on thanks to casuals, everyone and their dog wanted to try out the Wii, then came the fitness games and made the console even more popular while the Marios were for the sons and daughters.

This time however, there is no such hype. It'll be a console for Nintendo fans.

Agreed.

One thing I would also add to this is that people still think Wii U is an addon for the Wii. 3DS had the same problem when it launched (and still does to some degree).

That is why numbering your console (if keeping the same name) works. Because regular customers see it as the next one up.

Nintendo consoles being equal (or having more) in power to the others clearly isn't enough to get 3rd party support. See PS3/360 vs. U, and GC vs. PS2/xbox

Its the first party strength that makes it a difficult field for 3rd parties. Still, the good ones make alot of money with it.

The PS2 generation was a different story. The PS2 released sooner and Nintendo was late for everything. Given the PS2 domination there was no reason for 3rd parties to go multi-platform. Nintendo was also not ready for launch, wich brought lukewarm titles and no Mario game. They set themselves up for fail that round. Its not the case here.

Aside from possibly not making the system a little bit stronger (although given how they were the first to commit to a release, there is no way to know how strong either Microsoft or Sony would have made their consoles once they heard of Nintendo's range) they failed to learn from their previous system launches and have software unique to the system that would grab people's attention.

Literally, the only title that came close to touching the Wii U's interactive potential and was exclusive available at launch was ZombiU, a title that while very good wouldn't appeal to everyone. Nintendo Land is a fun diversion for the family, but Nintendo Land isn't that much different from any other mini game collection. Scibblenauts Unlimited while better then the 3DS version, isn't that different other then bigger screens. Nintendo themselves failed to live up to the promise of the system early on and now they suffered for it because the system is turning into what the critics claimed it would be... a HD Wii. Granted with a awesome online market but Nintendo could and should have done better with the software releases.
