1. But Pachter goes as far to say that the disappointing hardware sales won’t be relieved unless Nintendo cuts the price of the Wii U.

2. “The Wii U is not going to be very competitive if Sony and Microsoft launch comparable consoles at comparable prices,” explained Pachter.

1. price won't help hardware, software will.  Doesn't matter if the Wii U is free.  It needs games.  You can't do anythign with a Wii U without games.  (well actually you can these days, but nothing you already don't have in your house)

2. Don't you love when someone says something is gong to fail to another when we don't even know what the other is yet.  The other could be an exact copy of the wii u.  We have no idea yet, yet he is already claiming they are better.

Yup, no idea what so ever, except for almost all the specs through leaks & many many rumors pointing to atleast one of them launching this holiday.

please tell me these things about the PS4 and 720

1. What is the controller like?

2. What are launch games?

3. What is the launch price?

That's all I care about.  Couldn't give a shit about whether it has 2 gb of ram or 4 gb of ram.  Or whatever teraflops and other specs you want to toss at me.  Those things will equate to ZERO sales.  It's the three things I listed above that will matter.

1- Well microsoft is building the Kinect in to the 720 in addition to a "traditional controller" & Sony is rumored to be moving away from the Dualshock, so who knows/cares because those systems sell for their games, not control innovation, which leads to...

2- Games.  Of course no games have been confirmed, but next generation games like Watch Dogs & Starwars are strong early contenders in addition to up-ports of current generation games like GTA5.  And let's not forget the first party IP's.

3- It's been rumored that they will both launch at or under $400, and perhaps as low as $200 with a contract like cell phones use to lower price.

This will finally be the nail in his coffin. Price cut effect would last for a few weeks at most.

3DS says "Hi!"

3DS price cut wasn't what sold the systems, it was the Mario Kart and 3D Mario games.  The 3DS price cut did contribute, but if you knew better you'd know that a price cut by itself isn't enough.

I'm not suggesting they cut the price and not release any new games.  Did I say that?

EDIT: The 3DS price cut has contributed to the sustained sales of the system.  If it was still $250 do you think it would be moving even close to the same numbers that it is?

Given all the context, the statement you gave makes the assumption that the 3DS price-cut is what is driving the 3DS sales now.  If it weren't that, you should have elaborated much more than you did, because the way it is... it's up to interpretation and it is only your own fault it is, not the readers.

I also would like to point out to your response to irstupid that a lot of the Wii U rumored prices were dead wrong.

Really.  So you thought my master plan was to lower the price and cancel all games?  No, you lower the price to lower the barrier of entry so that there is a larger audience for the GAMES, also so third parties have more confidence to put content on the platform leading to more of those great things known as GAMEZ.

Not sure if you realize how ridiculous you seem with these extremes.

It's sad, I feel bad for Nintendo. But he is right, there is no real buzz or thing that the WiiU does that makes everyone go - oh, what is that!?!

It will up to them to show more at E3. To make people say, "Hey, come play with us."

Now if they had only released it in 2010 or 2011, things might be different.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I completely agree with the title.
Nintendo needs to stop trying with this Third Party thing. It didn't work with GameCube, it's not going to work all too well for the Wii U. (Not that GameCube was bad, it just didn't sell well. And selling well obviously matters.)

I don't completely disagree with Pachter, but for the most part I think he's being unreasonable with his analysis.

Good grief.  Someone said a price cut wouldn't help sales for more then a few weeks.  I said the 3DS begs to differ.  Someone said no it was the games.  I said it was the games and the price cut, but the games alone wouldn't be enough (See Vita).  I'm paraphrasing of course.

But you're right, I'm ridiculous.
