What kind of Ocarina remake do you prefer?

A 1:1 experience with remade assets 1 3.85%

An expanded version with new mechanics/areas 13 50.00%

A complete reimagining of the story/gameplay 12 46.15%

Total:26

I voted a ”reimagining of the story/gameplay” in the poll.

I just recently (during May) replayed ALttP on the Virtual Console. And while it is a great game the linearity kills it a bit for me, and the original OoT is not better in that regard.

If they somehow can get the general gist of the story and atmosphere right but with a gameplay that (at least feels) less funneled through a set of checkpoints I would welcome that.

Also I generally dislike remakes of games, give us new games instead! So a reimagine OoT that reuses the ”soul” of original OoT but with new gameplay is something I would much prefer.

OoT was downgrade from ALttP when it comes to openness in overall structure, with ALttP already being downgrade from Zelda 1. Generally, 3D Zeldas (up to BotW) have great Temples/Dungeons, but sacrificed Overworld way too much in the process. BotW did completely opposite, and it's why I find it to be the other side of the same unbalanced coin.

That said, while I would like nothing more than seeing 3D Zelda that has overall structure and balance of Zelda 1, them changing OoT too much wouldn't feel like OoT for me anymore (even if most likely comes out as better game than original OoT) and why I'm in "An expanded version with new mechanics/areas...but with caution" camp.

I’ll weigh in, as well.

I prefer option #2. I want something akin to Zero Mission or Resident Evil 4 (2023) — a remake that retains the general flow and gameplay loop of the original but which transforms the source material in surprising ways. Essentially, I want a complement to the original, not a replacement.

As a result, the 1:1 option is my least preferred. The closer a remake gets to a remaster, the more I lose interest.

The third option — the complete reimagining — could also work, but I worry about straying too far from the original vision. Ultimately, I want something transformative that’s still recognizably Ocarina of Time.

Hasbro today announced a new licensing partnership with Nintendo to create products based on the popular Legend of Zelda franchise. This multi-year collaboration is set to begin in 2027, starting with the first reveals of three 6" scale figures at San Diego Comic Con (July 23-26, 2026).

“For decades, The Legend of Zelda franchise has captivated fans through its deep lore, unforgettable characters and enduring sense of discovery,” said Billy Lagor, President Toys and Board Games at Hasbro. “By combining Nintendo’s iconic storytelling with Hasbro’s leadership in action and role-play, we’re delivering toys that invite fans to play, explore and forge their own epic adventures.”

That's quite...interesting...move from Nintendo. Hasbro does toys, MTG and D&D, all those can have their Zelda themed products...or is it just toys?

I'm considering playing Skyward sword on switch first, how does the game hold up?

I played it on Wii, so I don't know how the switch version holds up since the motion control of the sword was integral to the gameplay.

But as a Zelda game it's even more linear than the other Zelda games (with only the first game, Adverntures of Link, BotW and TotK being non linear), I don't really know how that's possible since Zelda games from ALttP have been very linear.

With all that said at least on Wii it was a good game, but not the best in the series.

Depends on what you expect from it and your previous exposure to Zelda games.

It has very good dungeons, but with overworld being also very puzzly. It's final distillation of Aonuma's puzzle solving Zeldas and sits on completely opposite side of pendulum swing of Zelda formulas from BotW (with original LoZ being in the middle, being combination of item gated open overworld and dungeons).

Personally, I really like it for what it does good, which are dungeons and puzzle solving, along with great art, but it feels very constrained and linear compared to what I find to be the best balanced Zelda formula, which is original LoZ (or something close to it) - nonetheless, I find it very enjoyable experience, although not the most true (from my POV) to proper Zelda (which honestly none of 3D Zeldas are).

I've only played botw/totk. I'm not fuss about linear gameplay.  Is there a sense of wonder or adventure, good atmosphere? I'm not a fan of frustrating puzzle design though.  Is the combat ok?

Of all the Zelda games I’ve played, Skyward Sword probably have the least sense of wonder and adventure. With that said still a OK game.
