Forums - Gaming - Crytek opens US studio, offers “new start” for Vigil staff

I just realized that Retro studios is in Austin as well. Nintendo should have picked up some of the staff and the Darksiders IP as well. In any case I am happy that this might be a good sign the IP will get picked up by someone eventually.

I do have to wonder how CryTek has enough money to establish 9 studios around the world. I mean besides their games they do sell their engines, but it seemed they weren't anywhere near as successful as Epic with that.

I was wondering that as well, they have basically only released Crysis games, though I didn't think they quite had 9 studios? Are they all proper studios rather than just small tech studios?

Most of them are proper studios but many are smaller focused on mobile games etc. They also do military simulation type work as well. And then there is Crytek Korea and Crytek Shanghai which pretty much just handles engine licensing and support for local devs as well as localising their free 2 play projects.

Edit:

Crytek Frankfurt: Main studio Far Cry, Crysis, Ryse etc

Crytek UK: Ex Free radical working on Homefront 2, did multiplayer for Crysis 2 & 3

Crytek USA: New studio, ex Vigil staff

Crytek Ukraine: Warface free 2 play games

Crytek Black Sea: No idea what they are working on now, used to make strategy games before they were aquired

Crytek Budapest: Mobile games, were working on Ryse but that was moved to Frankfurt and they were changed to mobile only

Crytek South Korea: Engine licensing, localisation

Crytek Istanbul: works on other games like Warface

Crytek Shanghai: Engine licensing, localisation

Most of them are proper studios but many are smaller focused on mobile games or just asset creation (basically they set up studios to do the type of work must devs outsource) etc. They also do military simulation type work as well. And then there is Crytek Korea and Crytek Shanghai which pretty much just handles engine licensing and support for local devs as well as localising their free 2 play projects.

Okay, so like 4 or so "proper" game studios and then others? That is still a lot given they only make Crysis... maybe we will see a flood of Crytek games next gen?

I hope Nintendo doesnt get the Darksiders IP and instead Cretek gets it as i would like to also have Darksiders 3 on PC so i can play it in 1080P .

Plus i think it would be a shame to make fans who might not own a WiiU have to miss out on this game if they owned and enjoyed the other two or have to buy a new system if they want to play it ya know..

True...but I prefer Platinum Games to Crytek as they would really go multiplat with that developer!!!!

Isnt darksiders one of the reasons THQ went bankrupt (as it wasnt the success they hoped for)? So why would anyone want that IP?

it's not like the IP was a money burner - it made a profit, but not enough to save THQ

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, Crytek confirmed with GameSpot that all 35 Crytek USA staffers are former Vigil Games developers. In addition, Crytek USA will not develop any future Darksiders games, and the company will not be housed in the former Vigil Games office.

Crytek is getting huge.

Also good to hear that quite a few of the Vigil staff already has a new job.

That actually concerns me a bit. Are they really that healthy to expand that much, i wonder.

And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
