Forums - Sales - UK Market!

Hi Guys, is it just me or UK gaming market is depressing? Even more so that the rest of the world?

Is it possibel that the numbers are so low because two (or 3) major stores had financial problems?

Game is no where to be found in major high street (London central has a small one inside Hamleys and the prices are pumped)

HMV did sell most of teh pre-owned games at 25% off so I guess people did not buy new games (or less so in teh last few weeks)

Blockbuster is selling pre owned console and games at 30%-50% off.

(I bought Mario 3ds game for £9.50 last friday and they are already on ebay for £20/£25.)

Plus the online market is terrible no real deal or sales and ebay has alway lower prices.

Are there any solutions for this?

See how much money they put in games... 50% off it's insane...

I blame the whole 1st person shooter crap that's going on this gen.

They're is no variety anymore. every developer wants to make the next Call of Duty and they fill the market with crappy fps's.

-Fighting games - DEAD

-Survival horror - DEAD

-Platformers - DEAD

-RPG's - DEAD

And many more!!

All the genres i mentioned above are still being made but they are not as relevant as previous generations because of the reasons i mentioned above.

Japan seems to be doing much better then uk these days "in terms of hardware sales"

Infact, the only consoles that do worse there are the 360 and DS

Although it may not answer the question this gen has gone where none before has been, seven years at the frontline in active service for the x360 and almost that for the PS3. It's got to hit the "fiscal cliff" at some point.

I think the wii u will be in limbo until the other consoles are release.

I could be totally wrong but I think that in terms of sales this generating could be looked back on as the high water mark.

Yeah kind of horrible especially when so many EU stores import from UK stores X_X..

Europe is not the only one who does that, the middle east and some Asian countries also import from the UK.

Fighting games - killed by Capcom with endless copypasted games.

Survival horror - killed by Capcom with recent Resident Evils and other games like Dead Space turning them into action games with extra gore. Gore = scary right?

Platformers - killed by Nintendo with no new innovation since GameCube yet Mario is still the only game people actually go buy. No market growth in a cornered market.

RPG's - still plenty alive and kicking, at least in Japan, the problem is nobody buys JRPGs outside Japan to make them profitable to export en masse except Final Fantasy. Western RPGs are just bland moral choice quests with weak stories.

And yes I agree there are far too many FPS games. I despise Call of Duty and its clones like Medal of Honor.
