Don't know which angle to take on this topic; however, I'm just going to say no. Plus I doubt the next wii u will be 2018(IMO 2016). I just can't see any angle that would be positive to Sony for waiting an extra 3 years.

If they wished to give up their gaming business then yes.

Based on game development Sony's first party and second party can last until 2014-2015. They shouldn't wait even that long to launch after Microsoft, because now that we know they will launch second, they shouldn't stay too far from Microsofts launch. Microsoft wants 100% of Sony's target audience which means Sony needs to stay close to Microsoft and fend them off.

I really wish Sony can skip next gen and focus more on the Vita, the ps3 can still have some legs against the NextXbox first 2 years, Plus it will be great financially.

Yea i am serious. Sony can focus more on their other division losses and comeback with a bigger bank account instead of losing 3-5billion dollars going against Microsoft.

just because it's not popular, im going to back you up on this, If Sony remains @ the bottom so be it. it's better not loosing their company over some fanboy wish's.

Its better to be a very small Niche in the market with smaller market share than going out of  the market completely.

This way they can rebuild 1st party studio's, not rely on 3rd party as much and grow their playstation BUSINESS again. where it's at Profit. making 1st party their priority. if that means lower Market share say 10%, who care's as long as they reamin @ profit right?

but..but 3rd party, Like 3rd party have been backing the PSVita?

the more they wait on the market to put out the replacement for the PS3 and keep concentrating on the PSVita and PS3, lower and shrink the COMPANY AS A WHOLE the better they will be in the long run.

Hey it works for Nintendo, I think Sony would rather be @ profit and stable consumer base of 50+ million a generation than end up loosing billions on trying to compete with a company that can out spend them 10 to 1! to get exclusive DLC or Exclusive's 3rd party.

If they want to get really far behind in sales, yes.

BUT EVERY SALE THEY DO GET WOULD BE @ PROFIT!

shrink The company as a whole, invest into one of the only good profit making area's of their company along with Online, and Mobile.

Market shere will not do you a d@mn good if investor's do not get their money back! the longer Sony wait's in releasing a replacement on the PS3 will only give the investor's a better reason to stick with it since right now the PS3 is still not under the $200.00 market. Handing the majority of the market share to Microsoft is not outright true , for all we know many would go to Nintendo! or Hell another platform all together, Like Samsung, or Apple of SmartTV's.

Now most likely Sony is not going to do such a thing, but i would imagine they are in reduction of the company as a whole, and the TV production has been dropped by 40% and another 20% in the next two year's that's going to be 60% reduction in the number of model's they will have for retail.

better yet , Make Playstation completely Agnostic! make it so that in house exclusive's are made for Sony platforms only, while 3RD party playstation software is made for a unified 3rd party Playstation Licenced platform such as smartphones and Tablet's and Smart TV's. where as those very same smartphone and tablet and smart TV games can also run on the sony  hardware also! like the PSVITA.  "A PLAYSTATION MOBILE UNIFIED PLATFORM FOR THE MASS MARKET CONSUMER PRODUCT'S" that is made for smartphone's Tablets and Smart TV's! for the Living room.

that way, new hardware can be released every Quarter and your old hardware can still play the same software! no matter when you get the hardware the same year or a few year's down the line. it would not matter.
