looks can be deceiving, I mostly lurk, and post every so often. but to be honest with you, I've had my accounts banned since this site started, I'd usually drift away but then drift back, create an acocunt to voice some thoughts that no one seems to have, an issue I don't have on neogaf, cuz theirs always someone who's opinion I agree with, so I'm not yet compelled to creat an account there, here though is a different story.

back in the day their were two sites with numbers, this and nexgenwars.com, when the PS3/360/Wii launched both were active and sales figures were all the rage, VG charts ended up being the most accurate and most trusted so it boomed, the other site tanked as it's number where really off estimates which don't seem to have been based on reality.

Yes the VG forums has been dying a slow death, I personally blame the draconian mods.

I've been here pretty much when the site began, back when the forums where booming but things are not as they were.

Currently Neogaf is the best forum, awesome community, always tons of activity. Large E3 announcements causes the forum to starts giving the 404 error because of the sheer amount of users and I love how the community use that as a gage for how popular something is. People on neogaf can have a bit of a light hearted joke here and there with no threat of being banned. People can even post things that will come across being fanboyish and be fine, but here you will get banned. In fact here you will get banned for posting facts, they'll pick how you worded things to have cause to ban you, especially if its anything negative against Nintendo......stuff like this draconian way of running the threads will and have driven people away.

I'm not advertising Neogaf, but just drawing a comparison as I frequent both. In my opionion VG mods need to look at how Neogaf do their thing and try mimic it a little bit to try get a balace...assuming that the site admins care that is, cause if their main concern is just the numbers and monetizing that, they should just shut down the forms and place themselves as an NPD like company, luckly that's not the case but they just need to amend things.

Change is hard, but change is good, no need to fear it, instead embrace it :)

So now the draconian mods ban you for saying anything negative against Nintendo?  In the last few weeks the mods as a group have gone from being pro-Nintendo to anti-MS to pro-Sony to anti-Nintendo to pro- Nintendo.  I think that we've started being anti-Sony this week too.  I'm sure that I'm missing some stuff in there but that's pretty much how complaints have gone recently on this site.  When a user or two of a certain group is banned then we are against that group?  Please stop with this crap because that's exactly what it is, crap.  I have no problem with us being criticised for certain individual things that we have done since we are not perfect, but to say that we ban people for only talking in a negative way about one  company is ludicrous.  The truth is that we ban people that we feel need to be banned.  It doesn't matter what company they cheer for.

Whether you think that we are too strict or not is completely up for you to decide, but don't start with that stuff about us moderating one way towards one group and another way towards another because it's simply not true.  Were we picking on lilbroex because he was a Nintendo fan?  We must have been anti-Nintendo back then.

So what's happening?

the problem is that with users like pezus and spurgeonryan this forum is hard to read for anyone with IQ above 60.

Isn't change what got us here in the first place?

The people who complain about mods and banning are the ones that can't have a civil discussion and resort to petty insults and cheap, tawdry hit & run tactics on the forums, there are also a lot of plain trolls that whine every time they get banned and some even go so far as to make threads to complain about it. Its not hard to avoid getting banned on vgchartz, even if you're active, I honestly don't understand how people get themselves into so much trouble all the time.

As far as mods being biased; there was a time when a few mods in here truly were biased but none of them are mods any longer, which is a good thing. Overall, I think the mods are doing a great job in here. The complaints remind me of what I hear at work every night when I send people home for being either too drunk or disorderly; its my fault that they're drunk and/or disorderly...

during that time, i was still like the 4th most active person on the site. it's about what those user's and user's on the site contribute.
