Nintendo is taking back Japan’s gaming industry one franchise at a time.

I could write a long story about some political party beating another, in some town in my country, which is a lot like what Nintendo is doing in Japan with games. I won’t is too long. But Sony better focus on their western audience for now, like how they are doing with the movie industry.

Of course I would really appreciate this, since I don’t like Japanese pop-culture very much.

Well good luck with that. But Sony requires some JP support considering you know, it's the homeland after all.

(Also if we compare western vs western games....I don't see microsoft losing on the America front. Japan is actually pretty large for Sony, they can't just write it off like Microsoft can.)

Eh. No. Do some more research; Persona 4 Golden was a remake of a PS2 game, the sequel to which was released on both PS3 and 360 last year.

In all likelihood, Persona 5 will be announced (and probably released) this year for multiple systems, possibly including but almost certainly not exclusively to Wii U.

The SMT X FE trailer is irrelevant to the discussion, anyway, as Shin Megami Tensei IV has already been announced for 3DS. So, yes, Nintendo "took" a series from Sony (although SMT started on NES/SNES), but it's not Persona.

What he's saying is that Nintendo can branch out from Japan using it as their stronghold.

What's extremely important is the growth of China and it's console market which has been plagued by bans and piracy for years. If China ever obtains a fixed market for videogame consoles, then it is highly likely that it will be Nintendo and not Sony that gains more ground there attributed to a closeness in culture to Japanese games more than Western games. I don't agree with Europe/Africa but the rest of Asia? It is entirely possible.

Arena is, plot-wise, very much a sequel to Persona 4. It even takes steps to tie together the events of Persona 4 and Persona 3, making it a pretty important part of the overall storyline of the series. The fact that it is a completely different kind of game from Persona 4 doesn't really matter in that sense, but yes, it is a fighting game. It's not "based on" Persona 4, it follows it.

I do agree that Japan is shrinking more and more into irrelevance in the home console market. This past generation, according to VGChartz, the country represented a smaller portion of the market than the sum of "minor" territories. In the handheld market, Japan is still a major player, which means it is still one of the largest consumers of video games in the world. But of course, this does nothing for Wii U/PS4/Xbpppppfffffttthahaha... like Japan would've mattered to XBox even if it was bigger than every other market combined...
