According to VGCharts Kinect Adventures, the pack in game with the Kinect Sensor, has sold 13.4 million units in 2 years and 2.5 months in North America.  Why does that sound significant?  It’s because it has already outsold the GameCube by about a million units, in the same region, and the GameCube was sold much longer. The GameCube had a full 5 year run before the replacement Wii.  (I remember seeing it looking all sad at a $99 discount shelf.)

The Kinect Sensor will not work without an Xbox 360; So every unit need and Xbox 360 to function.   Still, this seems like a rather significant number.  Especially when Microsoft predicted they would only 3 million the first year.

Kinect certainly slowed down in the past year.  But it sill an undeniable top seller for the X360.

Do you think Kinect will pass the original Xbox?  It only has 2.4 million units to go – or is it too late with the NextBox on the horizon.  Do you think it’s time for another price reduction?  Or would you make a lower pack in price?

Not really sure why you need to compare it to GC. If anything it should be compared to other add ons / peripherals like the Sega CD, 32X, Wii balance board, etc.

It's because I was comparing it to a new console in sales, and realized it had passed the GameCube.  I was totally surprised.

And do you have the Sega CD, 32 sales, or another accessory?

I would also like to compare it to the Balance Board - but that is harder to track with both Wii Fit (8.91 million)  and Wii Fit Plus (8.75 milloin) numbers overlap.   I know several people, included myself, that purchased a Wii Fit, and later upgraded with Wii Fit Plus.  I don't want to count people like us twice.   If we assume half of the Wii Fit Plus numbers are upgrades, then we get about the same numbers as Kinect. 

Anyone have an idea how to look at just Balance Board Sales?

Isn't kinect half the price at the time, and bundled

This makes me sad, gamecube deserved so much more

Anything that attracts casuals more than gamers will sell faster.

How about kinect and wiifit balance board eh?.. its a more fair comparison..

Kinect sold 18 million in rather quickly. The sales just slowed down in 2012.
