We are looking at something 10x better than PS360 and ~6.5x better than Wii U with these specs. GDDR5 is correct. |
I think you're whole-heartidly wrong and way over estimating these APUs as well as the use of GDDR5 RAM. Guess we'll know soon as I'm sure they'll be announced in a manner of weeks.

The GPU alone is near 10x better than GPU on PS360.
The GDDR5 is the fastest RAM disponible for Graphics to date and the PS4 OS will not be that complex to need DDR3 RAM.
| superchunk said: Many of you are reading way too much into this rumor. 1) its APU design that is utilizing mobile AMD components for laptops etc. Its not even current high-end PC tech. The 7XXX GPU mentioned is actualy "7XXXD" and is in reality 6XXX tech and not equal to the stand-alone 7XXX cards you'd put in your PC. 2) its not GDDR5, further more that is nearly not as important as the CPU/GPU which is covered above. We're looking at something ~2-3x the power of WiiU which in turn is ~2x the power of PS360. These are not new rumors, merely twists to current and adding in some terms like GDDR5 that are actually not correct. |
We all know how much your hoping Wii U is compareable to next gen consoles from a tech point but its not going to happen. The Wii U is a fine console but its going to be underpowered you need to just accept that.
It shouldnt stop the Wii U from getting good ports though as its using mostly modern architecture and isnt completly "last gen" hardware like Wii was. I really see zero evidence though that Wii U will be compareable in terms of hardware to 720/PS4 though

so , are we looking at a 599$ system again? don't really care if they blow my mind with a killer library but , guess gotta start saving harder

We are looking at a less than $500 system... maybe less than $450.
Sounds good. I hope PS4 = 4x (PS3) minimum.
Now show me the games!
e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

In fact, I think that they either made a mistake or this whole article is BS. Maybe they are using GDDR5 for graphics and then DDR3 for rest but I don't see how they would have any benefits from using GDDR5 for everything. More heat, more power usage, higher timings...makes no sense. |
No GDDR5 memory is optimized for "large memory chunk transfers", it can prefetch a lot more memory than conventional memory. This is done because graphics memory usually is addressed as "large chunks of contiguous memory". If you want to display 4k pictures, you have a lot of bytes to work on/transfer and you need a design the GDDR5 feature offers. If this (45683th) rumour is to be believed, the PS4 uses unified memory, so the designers have to decide on the memory type that they think is more important - either dram for the CPU (which DDR3 is completely sufficient) or dram for the gpu which calls for GDDR5 type memory.
The 8core-new-Jaguar bit is a bit a stretch of imagination, though. Component contracts were sealed mid-last year at the latest (that is just how the industry works). At that time, AMD had NOTHING to show to MS/Sony, and I highly doubt that either MS or Sony are building consoles now with technology that isn't out when the consoles are supposed to be out later this year. Same applies to the GPU rumours, thse new ATI gpus won't be out by the time the consoles appear. In both cpu and gpu cases, I see modified existing designs appearing in the next consoles (sure you can always rebrand the stuff as ATI 8xxx but it will be existing design stuff).
And for the "backward-compatible-folks": No cell chip - no compatibility, as simple as that.
A console with these specs can run any (that's it any) PC game in High/Ultra setting with AA filter in native 1080p plus 60 fps.

These specs are 10x PS3 so you should be very happy if these specs end up being true
