The Vita is Awesome Sauce incarnate. The broad consumer base might not realize it but it is the best. Sony is not truly losing any money on Vita, only MAKING IT. Even if sales are slow, they are still sales at a good profit from each for them. It will take time to dent that market, as NIN has dominated it unabided for decades now. Yet, if no one ever challenges them...of course they can't b defeated. Sony is about the only company who could in this venue.

People frequently also say similar things for the PSP. Does anyone realize the only things making Sony profit for a few years were PS2 and PSP sales? PSP helped sony out a lot. Just cuz it didn't sell DS numbers doesn't make it a failure.

I'd just like to say that I've gone on record saying the PSP was the greatest portable ever made (at the time).  I also have said that I don't know how anybody can consider it anything but a success.

I'm just saying.

It was good that Sony built a handheld system, it is unfortunate that they produced the PS-Vita ...

Had Sony gone for a more affordable/stripped down pure handheld system, or created a multi-device platform (handheld, phone, tablet) that produced versions of devices that were gaming focused, I think they would be doing far better than they are.

it was good that sony built the vita.. it's by far the best handheld device they have made, and arguably the best handheld gaming device ever on the market.. the problem is.. that they don't market it right/price it too highly.. vita is what is probably making sony the most money right now.. priced at $249 to start.. and they were selling it at profit since launch.. and it's been $249 since launch

"VIta is what is probably making sony the most money right now..." That's actually kind of sad. Shouldn't it be the PS3 currently though?

Or you know Sony Pictures.

How is it sad? Vita cost less than $190 to produce.. and they sell it for over $200 to retailers..

$190 at launch to produce.. that cost probably dropped below $150.. and they still sell it for oever $200 to retailers.. if they make $50 off every vita sold.. they are making much more money than most of their devices combined..

it's not sad.. it's selling okay.. 35,000 a week.. and making 50 bucks off of each unit sold each week, is a lot of revenue/potential profit..

PS3 is more than likely what is making them the most money.. cheaper model.. and increased price..

So why attack the Vita profits, so it's not as profitable as the 3ds.. so what? Yep so sony should close up shop it’s a dud, no one ever expected the vita to be bigger than the 3ds. What the sales have shown games on the Vita do sell, so there's very little worry when it’s comes to developing games for the vita. Sony will push the system and the games will come.

Nem @ What point is that exactly, does the ps3 have a lack of titles due to the psp? Did the psp lose money? Now tell me why the Vita shouldn't of been released.

I meant the state of the company as a whole has to rely on the gaming division for some profits. They aint doing so well elsewhere.

Check my edit I forgot about Sony pictures.

I think what he means that even though it's showing accounting profits, it isn't showing economic profits. They could've invested the same amount of time and money into something other than the Vita and made a lot more. For what they invested they aren't recieving a great return.

And given Sony's current state maybe they should've done just that, not make Vita in the 1st place but focus more towards the failing other divisions and try to salvage them.
