http://www.businessinsider.com/california-entrepreneurs-retroactive-tax-2013-1

California is essentially retroactivly raising taxes.  They've done this before... when they retroactivly changed the classifications of some businesses.  Now they're just outright retroactivly raising taxes.

Can anyone actually defend this?

EDIT: Oh, also you have to pay interest.  So you have to pay interest on a 2008 tax for not paying it in 2008 even though it didn't exist until 2013.

No I think the "because fuck you, that's why" part is the fact that Califoria is also charging interest.

So you have to pay interest on your taxes in 2008 that you didn't pay because they didn't even exist until 2013.

damn... I have all these Arnold Schwarzenegger animated gifs and i can't use them... so unfair

Oh yeah. I didn't even notice you left that part out of the OP. How could you?!

When Jerry Brown said there needed to be more welfare and fewer jobs, he fucking meant it.

ca is a shining example of what happens when the welfare state gets too big. its a mess, too many regulations, too much welfare, too much corruption, all the fault of big government. You think the other 49 states would look at ca and realize that a small government is the answer.

NSFW or too big ?

If it's the latter, that's only valid for sigs. Though you shouldn't post all of them in one thread either.

I hope that someone challenges in court. I doubt they would win in a CA court but someone should at least try and challenge it, at least the retroactive part, that can't be legal.

Whatever one's opinion on taxes may be, i would think that this in particular is unconstitutional as an ex post facto law. This is the sort of thing that government should know better than to try, because it opens the door for all sorts of craziness.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

CA politics for you. Probably some of the most corrupt government officials in the world work and live in CA. If it wasn't for its natural advantages as far as being a coastal state with ports and great farmland, and natural resources it would be an empty state.
