Remember when SE said traditional jrpgs don't work anymore and the genre needs to move on? The reason they made FF13 so cinematic filled with cgi animations with a new action based battle system. Well, FF13 was one of SE's least liked games.

Ni no Kuni shows why SE was wrong, its a traditional jrpg that stays true to its roots, and guess what? The game is turning out to be one of the best jrpgs of the last decade. Hopefully SE gets the memo and make a memorable rpg again, and it doesn't have to spend millions on pretty cgi to make up for the horrible story and characters.

Yeah but you're talking about style over commercial success.  FFXIII's sales are like 10x higher than Ni No Kuni's sales in Japan.  It's still a niche game for sure, albeit a highly-successful niche game.  I think SE meant that old-school turn-based JRPG's don't sell anything like they used to, so they had to start changing the formula.

I never opened the sales topic. FF13 didn't get its sales because it was not a traditional jrpg, it got its sales because it was Final Fantasy.

After all the sales Final Fantasy XIII got, Square Enix got a lot of hate mail. So much so they were compelled to make a XIII-2 to make things right. But then they got obsessive and made a XIII-3.. They're such d!ck heads

Well, you said it was one of SE's least-liked games.  Perhaps in hindsight, but the commerical success of the game after the revews came out don't support that argument.  The game was undeniably successful regardless of your personal feelings toward it.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

You know, I was JUST ranting about how I never ever wish for a company to die, and how it makes you a terrible person to wish for a game to fail. yet here I am.

Square-Enix, I want you all to die in a fire. how DARE you. Anyone who thought this was a good idea and actually spent time and money on this game is a blight on the videogame medium. Seriously. I hope your company crashes and burns and anyone involved with this game NEVER gets another job in the game industry.

Tell you what. release something not-shit (vsXIII, Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XV, etc), and We'll call it even.

Ni No Kuni is 87, and is therfore a AA game. Nothing wrong with that, I hear great things about it.

Hold up.  Did you just say that Halo 4 is a AA game?  Holy cats ..

But I did :)

Halo 4 will always be AAA in our hearts, but AA on paper.

Between us, that was a lame come back.

My point really doesn't need further explanation. The OP is obvious enough, no need to derail the discussion by bringing irrelevant sales arguments here. FF13 is one of SE's least liked games, (FF13-2 sold horrible if you wanted to figure it out). Most people including me have been disappointed by FF13. NinoKuni proves SE wrong, it proves jrpgs can be traditional and still be great games.

AAA is about the production costs.

Now now, it can mean both. Words throughout history have adopted different definitions. I think this is one such example.
