Xenoblade was a sales failure more because of the console and timing it came out.

I think Ni no kuni will have strong sales. Expect 1 million worldwide before 2014.

no it was not nobody expected this game to sell more then 700k, and it will crack the million eventually

It certainly won't lol

And if VGC shows that it does, then it means we have it way overtracked.

Xenoblade was sold out like 1 month after it came out. It has not seen stock ever since.

My local gamestop has like 5 copies left (I asked) should I just buy them up now and save them till they become like trilogy?

...looks a sales of both xeno and ni no kuni. yeah, no. you guys may like them and all, but no. just no.

Ni No is too niche its style. I think if Xeno was on a HD console it would have sold good numbers.

maybe it would have netted more if ps360 multiplat but i still don't think it would have done much, if any, better.  RPGs just aren't that popular anymore.

I don't doubt that they may have dropped in popularity a tad but it hard to test gage the extent when there have been zero AAA+ high scoring JRPGs this gen. Final Fantasy has always been that franchise and XIII still sold huge numbers 7m, despite  below average reviews for the series. Clearly there is still an audience for JRPGs

From what I understand AAA games are simple based on the budget, so I really don't understand your point.

Budget or quality, they've been used for either. Its obvious for what AAA stands in this context.

Ni No Kuni is 87, and is therfore a AA game. Nothing wrong with that, I hear great things about it.

Hold up.  Did you just say that Halo 4 is a AA game?  Holy cats ..

But I did :)

Halo 4 will always be AAA in our hearts, but AA on paper.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

From Software, Level 5, Monolith, Bioware, Blizzard, Sega, Bethesda, Atlus and Mistwalker have schooled Square Enix ten times over on how to make RPGs.

Yes!

The game is selling for 80$+ on ebay.

You can make a 30$ profit on all of them!

FFXIII was a great game guys, you just don't understand! *Runs away crying.*

we just don't like walking down a hall way for 30 hours with annoying characters and a story that explains nothing

We? Speak for youself, please. The story was good. And it has been made linear thanks to the port to the stupid DVD only console. Still the fighting system was great, and much superior than previous ones. Like the famous FF VI that I am playing now. What a bore. Hold X and fight 90-95% of battles. Heal once it is over. Said that nothing beats FF X. To fight in the Arena and especially the Dark Aeons did require skills.

Remember when SE said traditional jrpgs don't work anymore and the genre needs to move on? The reason they made FF13 so cinematic filled with cgi animations with a new action based battle system. Well, FF13 was one of SE's least liked games.

Ni no Kuni shows why SE was wrong, its a traditional jrpg that stays true to its roots, and guess what? The game is turning out to be one of the best jrpgs of the last decade. Hopefully SE gets the memo and make a memorable rpg again, and it doesn't have to spend millions on pretty cgi to make up for the horrible story and characters.

Yeah but you're talking about style over commercial success.  FFXIII's sales are like 10x higher than Ni No Kuni's sales in Japan.  It's still a niche game for sure, albeit a highly-successful niche game.  I think SE meant that old-school turn-based JRPG's don't sell anything like they used to, so they had to start changing the formula.

I havent played Ni no kuni yet, but i can tell you i would much rather a turn based FF like 7-10 than... well that thing we got with 13 i dont even want to begin to describe how bad it was.

I think that games like Ni no kuni, Xenoblade, the last story and the Tales series are the kind of quality JRPG's we need.

FXIII sales in Japan: 1.89 million

Ni No Kuni sales in Japan: 200k

I rest my case.
