Forums - Nintendo - Screw The Casuals, Let Them Abandon Nintendo

I'm not going to read this whole thread, so let me just point something out real quick.

Casuals are the reason the Playstation and Playstation 2 sold so well. That and the fact that they constantly broke.

Im with the OP, yes it is selfish but I dont care. Rather see a shelf with a little bit of games that are actually worth a damn, than a bunch of Bachelor, Just Dance knockoffs and the shovelware that invaded the Wii, it boggles my mind how some people here are trying to downplay that whole aspect.

When I used to complain about the crap games coming out for the Wii years ago on this forum I was deemed a Wii hater (even though I owned the system twice) and was told that the PS2 was also full of crappy games (which every system has, but the Wii was on a whole other level of shovelware).

When I complained about casual gamers making the Wii into a casuals' console, I was told there would still be the big Nintendo first party games (which was true) and that these casuals would turn into gamers over time (the bulk of them did not as apparent by the sales of Zelda and other core games and the mild launch of the Wii U).

I disagree.  Facts are the games industry is larger than ever and more people are playing than ever before.  Wii absolutely turned non-gamers into gamers.  Just not into 'core' gamers.   Wii's audience is still playing games from Just Dance 4 to Angry Birds.   Tablets/Smartphones and to a much lesser extent Kinect, still enjoy, and thrive on, the the fruits of Nintendo's efforts.

I agree with this, I meant core gamers that play Zelda or Monster Hunter type games.

3D Mario, Zelda, Metroid or Monster Hunter?  No.  That surely didn't happen.  Those games have similar sales as they did on GC despite Wii have 5x's the user base.  Even SSBBrawl didn't benefit greatly.  Mario Party 8, Mario Kart and NSMBWii on the other hand were huge sellers because of that base though.

Thats the thing that never made sense to me, why did Ninty, and some other media outlets believe that people would suddenly flock to those kinds of games? Someone's 80 yr old grandma who got the WIi just to play some WIiSports(lets not act like these people dont exist) are not going to suddenly care about Zelda. They didnt give a crap about it when it was around for decades, dont know why some thought it would be different with the Wii. Not saying that their not buying games anymore, they are just still buying the same TYPES and i could extend that to the COD franchise on PS360 to the same extent.

Nintendo never had this "hardcore gamer" fanbase. To say that somehow the GameCube had it is laughable, the entirety of the "hardcore gamer" audience made fun of the GameCube calling it things like "gaycube".

"Hardcore gamers" are something that came in with PC gaming and Xbox. They're also not really hardcore, but just big couch potatoes who want a cooler name to call themselves.

Most of Nintendo's fanbase has always been just average gamers, not hardcore and not casual. The PS2 and GBA had most of them during their time, and the Wii and DS had most of them during their time. Everyone seems to forget the average gamer and. Most gamers are just regular gamers.

There's too much focus on "hardcore gamers" more classically known as nerds/geeks, and casual gamers. The majority of people who own a Wii are neither of these types of gamers, most are just normal average gamers who play videogames regularly and aren't couch potatoes about it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Good post, fully agree

One thing is guaranteed. The market has expanded over the years with how video games evolved in the industry. The N64 numbers of those period would translate to 40-45 million atleast(if it ever had to go down that level...I feel it'll be better).

We need casuals to keep the system selling long after the core gamers all made their choices.

To throw away their support is to welcome last place.

And get discontinued as well.

This was some thread.

I'm not sure why can't both types of games can coexist on the same console? Heck, Wii Sports got my mom and sibling playing together and I'm glad for that! :)

But did they play anything else? Did they attempt anything like say? Zelda? Goldeneye? Tvs.C? etc.  Thats the issue some people are having
