Forums - Nintendo - The 3DS is one of the main reasons WiiU isnt selling so good

Good thread, BK.

I think there is some truth to your argument. I think all seventh and eighth generation systems (minus Vita) are pulling sales away from Wii U, and it's because they have more games and better games. And I think the next Xbox and PS4 will suffer the same fate, at least in the first few months.

But honestly, what could Nintendo have done differently? If it had front-loaded all of its best software, it would be exposed around E3. And if it had waited to launch until November 2013, it would lose its head start.

I think Nintendo launched with as much software as it could muster last November and hoped that the newness of the console and the allure of Mario would create enough momentum until March.

dont put a 2D mario when another 2D mario just released. honestly what i think they should have done? make a new 2D platforming IP with the team that made mario, and dont make it with characters like luigi or donky kong. something completely new! something that uses the gamepad to "enhance" gameplay like nintendo says the gamepad will. really think of it, a new platformer from nintendo that uses the gamepad extensively that you can only get on the WiiU. something that they could have spent a big budget on. doesnt that sound more interesting that another 2D mario?

Handhelds generally affect home consoles none at all, they have their own cycles and markets and the two are surprisingly different. This is why the DS managed to sell amazingly despite the home console being saturated near the end of the 6th gen and also why handhelds have different launch cycles and times.

This is also why the Vita is failing, its trying to be a home console in pocket format, its trying to emulate a PS3, a tiny PS3 with an unjustified price tag that offers nothing like the experience a home console does and it is also fall less than a smartphone in many ways.

Handhelds have almost nothing to do with home consoles, different cycles, different software, different market. The Vita and the Wii U have one trait in common that is holding them back; they have ended up in the twilight zone between the two markets, simple as that.

@bolded. thats kind of my point, the expereinces on the WiiU or not really different from that of the 3DS, they try to cater with a new croud with zombieU that is already being catered by PS360. but those crowed arent expected to buy the console at launch, who are? the nintendo fans. and they can get the same experiences now on the 3DS

now lets look at the upcoming releases, WiiU has pikmin and bayonetta 2. while 3DS has luigi's mansion, pokemon and monster hunter. the 3DS is just a more attractive purchase when it comes to future releases as well. the first bayonetta game wasnt even released on the wii, why would nintendo fans care for it really?

Right, Bayonetta 2 has nothing to do on WiiU!

it might help in the future to attract PS360 owners (i dont think it will though, like at all) but in the launch period a nintendo console is espected to sell to nintendo fans, WiiU fails to cater to that crowed at the moment

The problem with the Wii U is that the version that has the better value cost $350 and has limited games at the moment against the cheaper PS3 and Xbox 360 with a library of tons of games out and great games coming this year.

that certainly is a HUGE problem. but i was thinking that alot of people on here, and all the "analyst" were saying that the launch period is when hardcore nintendo fans buy the WiiU. so why is it failing at doing that?  the PS360 are hurting the WiiU when it comes to the more adult crowd, and mass market. but they are not affecting the hardcore nintendo fans are they? so why arent those taking the leap? the higher price point is one, lack of game at launch is another, then you have the 3DS which offers what every nintendo fans want, at half the price. the 3DS has everything the WiiU needs. thats my point. it isnt the only reason, but it is one

Well, I am not a ¨hardcore Nintendo fan¨ but I consider myself a Nintendo fan and a Sony fan. My main problem with the Wii U right now is the price, and only the price. I was an early adopter of the 3DS and I still feel the burn of the 3DS early price cut. I am not going to get the Wii U until I can get the deluxe version for 250 dollars. Nintendo must be mad for launching a new console with a controller that takes almost 30% of the cost of the system.

Right, Bayonetta 2 has nothing to do on WiiU!

Well you old Bayonetta-hater, all you want is no Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta 2 was cancelled, so all you say with 'Bayonetta 2 has nothing to do on WiiU' is 'Bayonetta 2 has nothing to do on any console'. Some people actually like that game. Let them play it at least on one console.

Sorry I couldn't resist (-_-')> And I'm not a Bayonetta-hater. I've just bought Arnachy Reigns just to play as Bayonetta one last time.

Ok, hopefully you will have the chance to play Bayonetta 2 sometimes in the future on a friends WiiU.

well for a next gen system a 300/350 price point is pretty good. but wiiu's tech certainly isnt next gen so the price point is high a bit, plus the 3ds price cut didnt help, its not only hurting the WiiU it did hurt the vita to in a way. i honestly dont know why the controller costs that much, it has no CPU, no GPU. its not a multi touch screen nor is it capacative. why is it costing this much

As you say 300/350 is good for a next generation system, But if I did not own a PS3 or a 360 I would prefer to expend less and buy one of those with that money in this bad economic situation that we are leaving at least in my country.
