Clue for my #16:

This movie features a famous sequence that was later borrowed by Brian DePalma in The Untouchables.

I looked it up, interesting movie. I wish these old movies weren't so expensive. Something's not right when a decade old movie is $8-10 and a nearly century old movie is $34.

The Alfred Hitchkock masterpiece blu-ray collection looks very enticing to me, but at $198 it still comes to over $13 a movie and I don't even know if I will like most of them. I'll add it on my watch list anyway for when it comes down in price.

Anyway decided to give the new Dredd a try, (3D) blu-ray + digital copy for $11.49.

i liked dredd so much..its even at number 47 on my list

its just a cool movie with a cool character :D

Tsubasa Ozora

Keiner kann ihn bremsen, keiner macht ihm was vor. Immer der richtige Schuss, immer zur richtigen Zeit. Superfussball, Fairer Fussball. Er ist unser Torschützenkönig und Held.

Great movie, I saw it when the prison abuse came out about Abu Ghraib. The movie put it all into context how such things can easily happen. Life imitating art, or simply reality unfortunately.
I haven't seen the 2010 American remake, doesn't sound too promising according to imdb.

My #15 is Battleship Potemkin, the first of two Sergei Eisenstein movies on my list. Make no mistake: Potemkin is a propaganda film. But it's also a great film, years ahead of its time and guaranteed to stir audiences almost 90 years later. The movie is most famous for its Odessa Steps sequence, in which Tsarist soldiers cut down civilians. It's a masterpiece of movie editing. Since 1925, the sequence has been referenced in several movies, including The Untouchables.

Posted my 16th pick Vertigo next on my list is another movie that takes place in the San Francisco area that is based on real life events.

16. Howl's moving castle, 2004, Hayao Miyazaki

The first of 5 Hayao Miyazaki films on my list. I watched it again yesterday and immediately wanted to put it higher on my list again. Then I watched another Ghibli movie and wanted to move that up too. I'll leave them spread out a bit for sake of variation in the top 16 and limit myself to 5.

Howl's moving castle's story is rich and magical. There is a big war going on in the background but the storie centers on Sophie, cursed into the body of an old women by a jealous witch. To break the curse she seeks out help in the mystic mountains and runs into Howl's moving castle. The castle is maintained by one of the best animated characters ever, Calcifer the fire demon. All the characters in the movie are great, the landscapes are gorgeous, the world feels grand and realistic. The music and sound design round off a great cinematic experience.

I can't wait for this to be released on blu-ray and trade in compression artifacts for paper texture and pencil strokes. Hand-drawn animation from studio Ghibli beats cgi any day imo.

You speak the truth. I constantly worry for the future of traditional cel animation with the success of studios like Pixar and DreamWorks.

Apparently there are 232 movies set in San francisco. Maybe Escape from Alcatraz?

This one should be easy:
My next movie is a fairly recent movie about planting an idea.

Escape from Alactraz is a pretty good movie but its not it the movie is much more recent it is less then 10 years old.  Also I'm guessing your next movie is Inception.

Your guess is correct.
I'm guessing Milk?
