My #15 is Battleship Potemkin, the first of two Sergei Eisenstein movies on my list. Make no mistake: Potemkin is a propaganda film. But it's also a great film, years ahead of its time and guaranteed to stir audiences almost 90 years later. The movie is most famous for its Odessa Steps sequence, in which Tsarist soldiers cut down civilians. It's a masterpiece of movie editing. Since 1925, the sequence has been referenced in several movies, including The Untouchables.
