My #32 is Schindler's List, the final Spielberg movie on my list. This is Spielberg's magnum opus, and the best movie of the 1990s. Everything about the film is perfect: the direction is focused, measured, and only subtly sentimental; the black & white photography gives the movie the starkness andd realness of a documentary; and the acting by Neeson, Fiennes, and Kingsley is a phenomenon -- it's rare to find three brilliant performances in a single movie. A monumental movie that should be seen by all.

If only Leo Dicraprio was around to see that. Congo ( insert name of guy who wrote the book Timeline, Sphere, Jurrasic Park, and I believe 13th Warrior as well) Laura Linney ( oscar whore) is on an adventure to find her fiance who was in the Congo looking for a rare diamond for his fathers techno company. What she found was something entirely else. A bald Joe Pantaliano, which will be the first time anyone ever cared about him, that crazy curly haired guy who says " This is not good!" in all of his 90's movies, British speaking Ernie Hudson in one of his best roles ever!, and the lamo from nip/tuck. They will battle cocaine addicted hippos, lazer beams, talking pandas, and killer gorillaz in a balls to the wall action adventure! Will Delroy lindo stop the Guy who played the clown in "IT" and the hotel manager in Home Alone 2 from eating his seseame cakes? Will a thousand Great grey apes trained by King solomon in the fictional book " The Bible" murder every last one of these luckless assholes? Probably. Rent it and find out for yourself. |
LOL. Best review ever.

My #31 is The Wizard of Oz, one of several movies on my list from 1939, the best year in the history of movies. Like E.T., The Wizard of Oz is family entertainment but it's also a masterpiece of sound, music, and fantasy storytelling. The movie is funny, touching, wistful, and nearly flawless on a technical level. Especially during musical numbers, where production design, costume design, music, lyrics, and fantasy all merge in glorious technicolor. Or, in the case of "Over the Rainbow," sepia-tinted black & white. An enduring piece of American cinema.

31. Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, 1998, Terry Gilliam
The first of 4 Terry Gilliam movies on my list. A crazy drug fueled ride in Las Vegas at the end of the 60's. I love the absurdity, its dark humor, and the great performances by Johny Depp and Benicio Del Torro. Terry Gilliam is a master in bringing the drug induced nightmares to live on the big screen.

Yes one of his early ones.
vhs? I just started watching my top 10 Terry Giliam entry I have HD-DVD and aborted, ordered the blu-ray version. Black borders all around and no lossless sound, unacceptable for a top 10 entry :)
Posted my #31 pick The Elephant Man. Next on my list is one of Steve McQueen's best movies.
My next movie shouldn't be too hard to guess. It plays out mostly under water by a director that has already appeared on my list.
@spurge: in the mouth of madness great choice dude :D
