Retro haven't done much recently besides Donkey Kong and MK7.

By that logic, I would have to consider Minecraft too old.  If that is the case, how the hell is Mojang on the list at all?

Besides, the Metroid Prime series is not that old.

Bear in mind pezus considers Half Life 2 and the episodes recent.

For the record, I just noticed Platinum Games is #4. ROFL!

What? Riot copied the original Dota...and one of the original Dota makers is heading Valve's Dota 2. Valve's game output isn't sparse. CS last year and a Dota 2 beta that is by far the most popular game on Steam. Team Fortress 2 is also still one of the most popular games. Portal 2 came out in 2011 and won many GOTY awards etc. Do you want them to release 3+ games per year or what?

And Riot employes 2 of the other creators of Dota, in Steve 'Guinsoo' Feak (who made the map before IceFrog was even involved bassed on another map that Eul made IceFrog took over after he left to founf Riot games) and Riot also have Steve 'Pendragon' Mescon who helped shape the Dota community into what it became and his DotA-Allstars.com is widely considered the most influential part of the Dota community.

You know that's right. Especially if JAPAN Studio includes the work they did with Team ICO and Project Siren.

You had other games on that list, but just pointing out a game you consider recent.

Valve on the top of this list is a cop out. Half Life 2 being name game of the decade was a cop out.

Its the answer that pisses off the least amount of internet nerds.

Valve in recent years:

HL2: Episodes 1 and 2
L4D1-2
Portal 1-2
Team Fortress 2
CS: GO
Dota 2
Continue to make Steam a great service

I honestly can't think of a developer that has made that many enjoyable and well received games in the past years. They've not even once made a flop.

No need to bring a completely different list into this.

1. Yeah... those games are fine. But would I consider those games better than what Nintendo EAD offers? Fuck no.

2. Also, I think it makes more sense to compare Valve to other companies. Not just individual studios. That means MS, Sony, or EA could be higher on that list if all their studios just shared a name.

1. "Fine"...sure. And yet you're not a big Nintendo enthusiast it seems (based on your posts and your game collection). Why do you consider them better if they clearly don't entice you enough to buy them?

2. No, that's not fair at all, since Valve is a very small company compared to those.

1. I own a lot of games I don't put on that list. That includes Nintendo games on Wii, DS, and 3DS. I'm not a big Nintendo enthuiast per se and you don't have to be feel they put out better games than Valve.

2. Ohhhh... so its more about size than games? Gotcha. Because that's what consumers care about in the long run. The size of the studio.

They essentially made one game and it was based off someone else's work. I just don't have a whole lot of respect for that.

What was Minecraft based on? o.O
Don't you think they deserve respect for making such a phenomenon with such a small team (Notch was alone for a long while)?

Infiniminer. And I think Minecraft becoming a "phenomenon" was a fluke. Sort of a "right place at the right time" kind of a thing.

Wat. That's not logic. Minecraft came out in 2011/2012 officially, and it's hugely more popular and influential than either of those games from Retro.

You and I both know that Minecraft has been available to play since 2009.  They have been adding updates since then, but this game was developed very differently than how most developers go about it.

Is Minecraft more popular than what Retro has done?  Sure.  That doesn't mean Retro should be left off the list.  They rebooted a long dormant, but extremely popular Nintendo franchise to great critical and comercial success.  Twice.

I don't know how influential I would call Minecraft.  Still seems a little early to tell.
