What Journalist would cry over any Platinum Games title? Any exclusive Platinum Games title is a death sentence to its sales. Their games are incredibly niche such a new company. You would think they would try to come up with ways to be relevant outside of 90-2000's era Japanese arcade style gaming with generic characters and decent arcade style action.
labels... DKCR is hardcore. Lol the game is not easy

This is all very legit reasons and something Nintendo should look in to! Just look at Disney; THE most family oriented company of, like, all time! And still they're catering to all kinds of tastes. Nintendo should really try and learn from Disney.

To be fair though Nintendo honestly is the one that alienated core players with their own stupidity. Choosing cartridges over CDs basically was a big F-you to the entire third party community and consumers too ($70-$80 games?). And the GameCube was kinda half hearted in a lot of ways (Super Mario Sunshine? Where's Mario 64-2? Losing Rare entirely and replacing them with ... nothing?) too.
Core players never abandoned Nintendo willingly IMO, they were forced to Sony in a lot of ways because of what Nintendo did by basically cutting Capcom, Konami, Squaresoft, Enix, and many others from the N64.

If Nintendo stock ever got low enough, I wouldn't be shocked if Disney tried to buy a big chunk of Nintendo shares.
They seem to be on a buy-out binge lately.

But I have been struck by the amount of venom directed at Nintendo on sites like IGN and GameSpot, and even here where posters are infinitely more intelligent and more reasonable. I would really like to get to the heart of the issue. And I don't think it's just because of the success of Wii, which I imagine rubs many video game players the wrong way since the Wii succeeded by winning over the hearts and minds of "amateur" video game players. In other words, the Wii won because it embraced everything video game hardware and software should NOT be. But the issue is older than that. SNES, however great, was usually considered the less "cool" system. N64 darkened in the shadow of PS1. And GCN was a punchline. So Nintendo has been mocked for about 20 years, for being "kiddy," for being "out of touch," and, most recently, for inviting in a group of novice fans unworthy of membership in the brotherhood of video game veterans. So why do some people despise Nintendo? Two reasons, I think. One is elitism, which teaches that Nintendo games and fans are part of a lower social strata. And the other is custom: people hate Nintendo because it is fashionable to hate Nintendo. I would suggest this to those that spend a disproportionate amount of time belittling Nintendo and it's fans: use that time and energy to rent and play a few Nintendo games; you might actually like them. |
Yeah, the Nintendo hate is pretty wide spread, and totally unjust! The Wii is a great console, because it's so simple! They should make more consoles like that; easy to use, easy to understand. That's what Nintendo does best! Just look at the original NES; up, down, left and right, A, B and Paus. That's easy. As easy as pie! The Wii was almost point, then click. As simple as can be!

And that would never turn out well for Nintendo. They need to do their own thing with out having someone watching over their shoulder. What they should learn from Disney is that you CAN catter to "kids" and "grown ups"

A Nintendoland at Disney Would fit right in. Mario and Mickey in harmony and it would work. Same crowd, I approve of this.

This is also very true! Had they treated 3rd parties better during the NES/SNES era and gone with CD-based games Sony would never have risen like they did and Nintendo would have been king the whole 90's.
